Ok, I got a 12" Vega series sub from Cerwin Vega

The box that I have built is a rectengular box
with 1 4" circular port that is curved inside the box. It measures 15.5in
box dimensions
Height 14.36in
Width 31.5in
depth 14.25in

Now according to my calculations the box is 2.7ft3

Is that too big for a 12" vega? Does anybody know a better box? How about Future Shop ported boxes are they any good???

ANy help/ advice is greatly appreciated.

Your dimensions are external using 3/4" MDF I assume? What is the model number on the sub, Vega 124? Is it the 2003 model? Looks like your box will be tuned around 25-26hz. My BassBox program suggested, for a high output ported box, to go around 2.4 cubes vented, tuned to around 22hz, but that seems a bit low to me. For your box size you have now, it suggested tuning it to 21hz, which would mean that your port has to be 26" long, which is huge. Anyone else?

This is what the response graph looks like for the box you have now, with the port setup you described:

external measurments, thickness of MDF is 3/4.

Ok, I see but I do not understand all that technical stuff. So the enclosure is too big or too small?

It looks to me like it should be fine. What is the model number of the sub, as they had Vega's from about 5 years ago too. You have already built the box right? You have the sub, maybe hook it up and have a listen to it, see how it sounds to you. If you want to raise the tuning frequency, just take an inch off the port each time, and listen again, until it sounds better to you. Usually for ported boxes with 10's I am tuned around 30-35hz, so you may want to listen to some of your music and then shorten the port until it sounds tight. Hope this helps, anyone else got any suggestions??

Should be alright, try it out and let us know how it goes. If the bass is not tight, try shortening the port until it sounds better.
