Standard RCA spliced in on the line level signal line. Still wasting time planning a work in progress. My sub is in, currently driven by a little old Kenwood and barely keeping up to the rest of the stock system. The big amp has been out for repair for a few weeks now. After that, I start wiring the rest of the system and find some components and pick a front mid amp.

^ That will work on many factory radios, but not a Bose.

????

The Bose head unit in my car sends a 2V line level signal to an amplifier under the passenger seat to drive the cabin speakers and sends another 2V line level signal to the rear feeding a powered subwoofer that Blose... Hence, standard RCA's into low level inputs on the aftermarket amplifier. I'm not tapping speaker leads.

No - the communication from the deck to the factory amp is not a standard line level signal, it is (unless it is different than every other Bose system I have ever worked on) a balanced signal and you cannot just put an RCA end on it.

Man, there used be a handful of Bose integration units out there. Not so much anymore. It looks like the Re-Q5 can handle balanced inputs though and is an excellent integration piece to boot!

Ahhh I see what you mean...kinda... My HU acts as a pre-amp, sends a balanced signal to the Bose amp which acts as a signal processor AND amp, then refers a signal to the powered sub as well as sound signals to all the cabin speakers. I was under the impression that I could literally solder the leads from the HU up to RCA's and plug them directly into my amp. I did steal the mono sub signal from the stock Bose sub connections and attached it to an RCA for my Kenwood/Boston combo. Bose sub was in the trash months ago. But you figure I need some sort of interface to convert balanced signals to line level signals?

Hey Dukk. Give these a look over and see if I'm missing anything....

"The Bose CD player outputs have been tested and 100% confirmed as flat and unprocessed."

"You absolutely can simply remove the Bose amp and speakers and run your own, just like that. As long as your amp can handle the signals the OEM amp handles and draw the same or less current, you'd be good to go with nothing more than an interface plug (that you would have to custom make because as far as I know none exist)."

"The way to by-pass having to buy a BOSE interface for $100 is to splice RCAs into the respective speaker wires and use your head unit's pre-amp outs (you will need 3 pre-amp outs). Other than that, the install is typical."

^ If that is the case, like I say it will be the first time I have ever seen a Bose system where you can just tap into the wires from the deck. Generally I won't even entertain adapting to a Bose system, it just all goes into the trash where it belongs.

lol no doubt. It's definitely going in the trash, but the center stack has the HU and automatic climate controls integrated and is a real bitch to put anything else in there. Therefore we tap straight into the clean, flat, unprocessed 2V pre-amp signals, convert it to an RCA output and plug into a real amp.
