IMO the drill is the last option. First I look for an empty factory grommet. Then I look at sharing a grommet if there is space. Finally, if there is no reasonable alternative, I will drill.

I agree with Dukk yet can you believe that once I bought a car and the owner relocated the battery and ran the power wire underneath the car...Man that was dumb. Anyway find a hole and use it if you can't then get out the drill. Have fun. P.S. I just did two installs and with both I was able to find an unused hole with rubber thingy that was also unused..hehe

I look for factory grommet and if non availible then I drill and install proper grommet, as long as its sealed and safe both are ok to do, but as mentioned above be sure of where and what you may be drilling into.

Somtimes if your lucky, there will be a pre-exsisting hole that it will fit in ( Including rubber ) but if not, drill. Personaly, I like to always drill.....but alot of people dont like the idea. Its all personal prefrence.

I would be weary of using the drill, unless I absolutely had to. I usually try to find a grommet with space, or if possible an unused grommet (used the hole for the throttle linkage on my drive-by-wire Jetta). Then just buy a new grommet that fits. I tend to used a dab of silicon sealant on there too just to make sure.
