pre-amp output voltage

What kind of difference can u expect to see between a 2.5 pre-amp output voltage vs a 4 volt pre-amp output voltage

thnx

The whole idea behind higher voltage HU outputs was/is to deliver a better signal to noise ratio to your amplifier. One, it reduces noise induced by the other electronics in your car, compared to signal level, and, two, the gain on your amp doesn't need to be set as high, so it's not amplifying or generating noise as much.

On the other hand, most high end HU's have a really good signal to noise ratio even if they don't have high volt outs, a good install with good cables will be pretty much noise free and most high end amps have really good noise rejection with differential inputs (helps cancel out the noise induced by the car, but it depends on good cables).

I replaced my old alpine 7559 that had 4v outs, with a new 9855 that only has 2.2 v out and i got no more noise and certainly have better sound.

Hope this helps.

The 9855 has 4v pre-outs as well...

Higher voltage gives you more room to play with(for noise etc)

Power Output 18 W RMS × 4*
* Primary amplifier ratings per CEA-2006 Standard
• Power output: measured at 4 Ohms and ≤ 1% THD+N
• S/N: 80 dBA (reference: 1 W into 4 Ohms)
Maximum Pre-Output Voltage
4 V/10 k ohms (CDA-9855)
2 V/10 k ohms (CDA-9853)

Downloaded the manual. Its amazing what you can find online today. I knew there was a reason i bought the 9855, besides the glidetouch thingy.

Yup, the glide touch took some gettin used to....
It was a lot easier to use on the board in the store than it is at 120 km/ph

Wow, 10K ohms for 4 volts and 2 volts.....holy sheep-dip. That's a little on the ummm sky high side don't you think? As long as it is doing what you need it to though is all that matters.
