PXA-H100 Installation

Hey Guys,

I was just wondering if anyone knows why it is important for the Alpine PXA-H100 imprint module to be installed level? The manual specifically states "Be sure to select a level location for installation".

I was planning on mounting it on the rear deck of my car, which is not actually level. It slopes towards the front of the car. Even by eye it is not close to level.

I've read the manual and searched online and I can't find any reason why it should matter.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Brad

rear deck install? different...

I think the intent is to install fairly level but not absolutely level. Some older vehicles had vertically mounted HU and that would probably cause mistracking of the CD

I've never figured out why the H100 has to be level either, it's only a module. My best guess (far fetched, I'll admit) is that it has a small internal hdd for memory or something. A more realistic idea is simply for heat. If the heat sink for the processor faces up, inverting it or any extreme angles would prevent the heat sink from properly cooling the chipset, so it has the potential to ruin the whole unit.

My initial plan for the rear deck mount is falling by the way side. It's looking more like a spare tire well install now. Bit of a bummer. I think my plans would have looked pretty cool, but it's not working out. Much simpler to go with the trunk.

My only thought was heat may have been the issue. It does state not to mount the unit upside down as well. The fact that it is supposed to be level still baffles me.

Thanks,
Brad

It's for the GPS tracking Big Brother's using to track and control you.... I recommend you wear a tin foil helmet cuz it will scramble the signal and you'll appear as a cute bunny rabbit on the organic war screens.

Mine is underneath the carpet of the passenger side ... not leveled.
No issues thus far.
