Hey all,

Many years ago, I got installed a full sounds system into my car (8 speakers ,2 subs, quality head unit, amps etc...). Recently I sold said car and purchased a Ford Fusion base model. All I kept was my 2 12" Pioneers and my Mono Amp (class d).

To the point: The sound of the fusion is "ok", but there is clearly missing my sub sound. I don't want to invest much or to change the head unit (i know, i know... thats usually step 1). Is it possible to install my subs wth the current head unit on the Ford Fusion 2007? I can't find any specs for the radio at all anywhere on the net...

Any help would be appreciated (note: I don't even know if there any preouts on the stock radio..)

Well, you can always run a line-output converter on your rear speakers and run that to the inputs of your amp if you don't have the necessary preouts on the radio. Unless your amp can use high-level inputs, then you're fine by just splicing into the speakers wires.

Once that's done, you might want to get some passive crossovers on your speakers to cut the low-end frequencies. Simplest way is just sticking a capacitor on there, but you'll have to search for what kind of cap you'll need for what frequencies you want to cut off.

 

If I run a line output converter from my rear speakers, does that mean I lose my rear speaker sound (replacing itwith the subs instead?). Stupid question probably but i've been to 3 different places in montreal quebec and no one seems to know about connecting a stock headunit with an amp (with line output converter)....mabey i don't have a good place so far..kinda scary.

Btw, my amp is a Sony XM 3001SXD with 2 12" pioneer subs. Don't know if the sony amp that i have will do the job with line output converter or not...it does have a high pass filter on it i think though..(am i making any sense? lol!!

If anyone knows anything to help out and also a reputable place to install that won't charge me an arm and a leg due to my lack of knowledge in the montreal area...please let me know

OK you can either use an LOC as mentioned, but that amp has high level speaker inputs. No you will not loose your rear speakers if you leave them connected and just splice into them and run those right into the high level inputs. Now keep in mind LOC normally sound better but before you drop a bunch of money on a half decent LOC try the high level inputs first. Might be surprised.

As what was mentioned, splice into the rear speaker wires. And run them into the high level input on the amp.
I did this in my friends neon, and it sound perfectly fine. It was very loud (he now runs his bass all the way down).

I did all the wiring within a couple hours. He still has rear speakers, and they still sound good. His system is actually quite loud.

I never claimed to be a world class installer. This was the 3rd time I did an installation... first one that wasn't in my own car. So, if you guys could do a little more than just say that it's nasty and actualy offer constructive critism, rather than just bashing, it would be nice.
