Relay Question, Momentary pulse (- or +) to positive on/off

I have a momentary switch on my gear shift (which is ordinarily used to turn the overdrive off) I want to find a way to use this momentary switch to turn on and off my sub amp... any solid leads would be much appreciated... I have a handful of four and five pin relays, I know there is a way somehow

If the switch is just a switch without any electronics in the shifter it should be fairly simple. Yet I'm not convinced it is just a simple switch. More than likely there will be some electronics incorporated into the switch itself which tie into the rest of the electronics of the transmission . . . however, sometimes automakers do use simple switches with wires running to the actual electronics. If this is the case there should be 2 wires that lead to the switch.

Take one wire from the switch from the remote turn on from your head unit, the other wire goes to the 12v turn on pin on the relay.

My question though is why not go to "the Source" and buy a basic toggle switch for a couple of bucks and NOT mess with parts of your car? Also, are you planning on keeping OD permanently on or off?

if the switch truly is momentary then when it's connected to the relay the way you describe it would only send power to the amp when the switch is pressed, correct? If that's the case then you would need a latching relay to hold the power on until the switch is toggled again. Honestly I wouldnt mess with that switch, I would just get a classy looking toggle switch. But, hey, its your ride and im sure you've thought of all the times you haven't used that OD button and want to put it to use.

if ita a momentary switch and like everyone has said your not going to use it for over drive. if its a positive switching wire hoke that to pin 85 and ground 86. then hook the remote turn on to pin 30 and then pin 87 is your out put to you amp. now split pin 87 and hook it back up to pin 85 that way once you turn the relay on it will stay on till your deck shuts off. if you want that switch to also shut the system down thats a little more complicated.

Update: The only reason I wanted to use this button is because of how comfortable a location it is for me to turn subs on and off. I didn't want to cut a new hole, or use some bulky ugly switch. Not having all the time in the world to search for the perfect latching relay (or being close enough to a supplier that I could get one from) I did manage to build myself one with 3 SPDT relays, 1 SPST relay and 2 50v microdiodes. It is a monster!! I also ran another relay in behind my head unit connected to my rem wire. It splices power into my latching relay and remains a constant power feed into my 4 channel amp. This way when the key is off I can't turn on my monoblock by pressing my previously known O/D switch. It works pretty slick, though my first trial popped my fuses (there was a pinched remote wire caught on some sheet metal) to be fair I was trying to do all of this before heading into work. If anyone knows where I can find a simplified version pcb style latching relay let me know.

I only disconnected the O/D wires from the switch, I will reroute them to a hidden momentary switch. After driving today I'm really enjoying the convenient killswitch, as they say give me convenience or give me death. It looks like a simple button but nothing could be more overkilled from the truth.
