I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the crossovers in Rockford's Punch component set.
P152S Component

I just installed a set and the crossover starts to Glow when the volume starts to get fairly loud.

I have read that it will damage your speakers.
Thread on glowing crossovers

Does anyone know if this is true? You really have to turn the gains almost off in order for the crossover not to glow. When the amps are set up well, and everything sounds good and loud with no distortion, the crossovers are twinkling.

I can't seem to find any info on Rockfords website. You would think it would mention it in the owners manual, but it doesn't.

Thanks for any help,
Later,
Brad

I have found this general description on crutchfields web site, but I don't want to depend on them being right, and end up damaging something.

I don't even know if this is the same thing Fogate uses.

"Optical Compression Tweeter Protection: This built-in protection circuit includes an incandescent bulb (visible through the clear crossover cover) that limits power to the tweeter when the "danger" threshold is exceeded. Because the circuit simply limits power and doesn't shut the tweeter off, this method of protection is inaudible."

Thanks for any help,

Brad

It is just a light bulb -- it is "burning off" the extra high frequency energy

So it is O.K. to leave them set so they are coming on all the time?

"It stops you from blowing up your tweeters, can you say distortion!!!!!!"

Are you saying that because the light is on, it is distorting?

Thanks,
Brad

ya there distortion bulbs
youu mean you have never heard of distortion bulbs
you see theres little gremlins in there that flip a switch when the distortion starts
the question i have is why not put them on the output stages so we can all enjoy distortion free music
my take is that there are not enough of these little guys to go around

Gremlins in his crossover, man I thought that Rockford solved that issue long ago. Take a can of raid to the crossovers, that should fix the little buggers. I hate Gremlins, they waste my time and test my patience.

Lightbulbs only come on when DC current is passed through them. DC = baaad distortion, AC = all good. Gremlins = bad news if you get them wet!

I think you've got light bulbs confused with LED's
