sirius sat radio with pioneer avh5000dvd

Hi all im looking into getting the pioneer interface module so i can run sirius radio through my deck.

What I would like to know is if I can throw away the supplied pioneer radio adapter box that interfaces my stereo to my antennae as I dont want three modules to hide?

I thought i read some where that the head unit will not work with out the ip bus plugged into the supplied antennae adapter?

Thanks

Chris

I'm not sure what antenna adapter you are referring to, but basically to add Sirius to most head units, you buy the universal tuner (SC-C1)
SIRIUS SC-C1 SIRIUS Connect Universal Vehicle Tuner (SCC1 SiriusConnect)

which is not brand specific then you buy the translator box for your brand of head unit, in your case, Pioneer:
Pioneer CD-SB10 (cdsb10) - SIRIUS Satellite Radio Car Tuners - Sonic Electronix

If you have something else that was plugged into the data port like a CD changer etc., there is a pass through connector on the translator to handle that.

Sonixelectronics offers both pieces as a set

Pioneer SC-C1+CD-SB10 (scc1_cdsb10) - SIRIUS Satellite Radio Car Tuners - Sonic Electronix

but you would need a US address to register a US tuner,. If not the SC-C! needs to be purchased in Canada for a Cdn subscription.

A couple of years ago there were brand specific tuners but they are almost gone now, they looked like this

SIRIUS/XM SIR-PAN1 (sirpan1) - SIRIUS Satellite Radio Car Tuners - Sonic Electronix (for a Panasonic)

but the problem with them was if you changed brand of head unit, you had to cancel your tuner subscription and start a new one with the new tuner.

The Pioneer tuner box is am/fm and has nothing to do with Sirius at all, thus you cannot scrap it. To do Sirius radio in Canada you must use two items, the SCC1 Sirius tuner pack and the Pioneer branded interface module. If your vehicle has factory Sirius radio, you cannot use the tuner in the vehicle but you may be able to use the stock Sirius antenna.
