Some questions from a newbie(ish)

Hey guys

First, I want to thank anyone who can help out at all with any tips.

I first installed this system (my first install) on a Honda civic. I just sold it, and have got a 2002 Ford explorer. Now I know the sound is going to be different, and I figure its just going to pound even harder. But I’ll let you decide.

Here are the system specs:

Head unit: Pioneer DEH-P7600MP
http://www.autotoys.com/x/catalog/P...DIO_p_1119.html

The head unit is 50w x 4 ch.

Subs: The subs are 2 Power Akostik 1800 watt max, 800 watt rms. Dual voice coil

Amps: The amps are 2 rockford fostgate amps
Amp1: 2 channel,1800 watt max, 150w per channel at 4 ohms
300w @ 2 ohms (all figures RMS)
Amp2: 501x amp – (4 channel) 65w @ 4ohm or 125 @ 2ohms (rms)

Speakers: Sony X plod
2 – 4.5” 75w rms
2 – 6.5” 125 rms

Capacitor: Stinger pro 3 farad

In the civic, I upgraded the alternator to a 150 amp. The problem I had was that the system seemed to be taking too much power, and I subsequently had to keep on replacing the battery, and ended up just yanking the system (after a few batteries)
So here are my questions

1. Do I need a new alternator from the stock? (in the civic, I upgraded to a 150 amp alternator)
2. I have a feeling Im going to need a 2 battery system. If so, I need a solenoid (if im not wrong) What kind of solenoid would suit this system? Diode? And if so, does the extra battery just go in the back?
3. Does the car need dynamat? The civic was dynammated, but that was a HUGE hassle. Is it necessary?
4. What gage power cable do I need? Should there be separate power cables to each amp? (that’s what I had before)
5. At what impedance should the subs be wired at? 2 or 4 ohms?

thanks guys

1. Do I need a new alternator from the stock? (in the civic, I upgraded to a 150 amp alternator)

----there are some really powerful aftermarket alt's you can buy. but depending on how much draw you have, its not really a big deal. just dont run all your extras at once, like rear defrost, ac, window's, high beams, an so on...

2. I have a feeling Im going to need a 2 battery system. If so, I need a solenoid (if im not wrong) What kind of solenoid would suit this system? Diode? And if so, does the extra battery just go in the back?

----most times a good single battery will suffice unless your running gob's of power and you need to keep voltage stable.
and i believe you will only need an isolator if you plan on running the system using that second battery while your car is off.

3. Does the car need dynamat? The civic was dynammated, but that was a HUGE hassle. Is it necessary?

----if you find lots of rattles maby it is something you might wanna do.

4. What gage power cable do I need? Should there be separate power cables to each amp? (that’s what I had before)

----4 guage should be more then enough.
use a distrubution block.
the bigger amp is gonna draw more then the smaller amp so if you wanted to do a single run for each amp you could do that aswell.
10wrms is about 1 amp of draw
4 guage can take something like 150amps.

5. At what impedance should the subs be wired at? 2 or 4 ohms?

----try it both possible ways
run the coils of each sub in series to make an 8 ohm load per driver and parallel both subs to make a 4 ohm load and bridge your amp.
or just parallel the coild for each sub into each respective channel.

if i made any small errors someon please correct me...

Unless there is something wrong with your alt in your new vehicle, that system shouldn't require a second battery or alt upgrade. I've run way more than that without.

4 guage from batt to dist block is lots, only need 8 guage to feed those amps individually.
