The gain is NOT a volume. It matches the signal input that the amp want's to work best. You got to be careful with it because you can still blow a sub even with the gain down.If the signal is distorted the sub does not move as intended and can still cause cooling problems for the voicecoil and your sub goes dead.

Yeah I'm thinking the TC4002.

Dany: What are you using? And where do you get them?

got them from a supplyer from ottawa. and no longer gets them. its Massive Audio. CW-12 they are loud and plays low. beautiful sound

the tc4002 would work fine for just one kappa 122.7

My goal is to shake the mirrors. Until I get that I want to go bigger. Also, I've just got my xbox sold so I can add about another $200 to my budget for an amp. So we're looking at about $400-500.

I have another question too. Ok, so the sub has a RMS and peak. That's fine. But an amp has that too. So lets say both the sub and amp have an RMS of 300. I want more thump, can I get an amp that has a RMS of 500 and use it with the sub to achieve this. Just so long as the amp's RMS isn't higher than the peak of the sub? All I have to watch for is the gain right?

a peak is a useless # on the box. you can add lets say 100watt rms over what its rated and ya just watch the gain and distortion and you should be also getting better sound out of it

Yes, I worded that very poorly for him. Thank you for the clarification.

One of the things I've learned lately is the enclosure can make or break your sound, and that in general, go to the upper end of the enclosure spec size (if you are building for example). I've seen that sentiment echoed here time and again by people who know far more than I do about the subject.

When my enclosure was still ported, it sounded terrible (didn't matter where I set the SS filter or LPF. Got worse as I went lower) with the Kappas and it was just under the minimum requirements for ported box volume, however it is near the upper end for sealed, so I closed off the ports and it sounds very good now.
