Question Sound Deadener Question

got a 05 cavalier and lookin into putting sound deadener in the trunk because....well lets just say the entire outside body of my back of my car rattles. I was trying to find out how to do the trunk lid (the part seperating trunk and back seat I dont know if its called a lid or not). do I cut out where the 6x9's go? do I leave a little overlapping and put another layer on top and seal the top and bottom layer together or what? any input would be great. Thanks a bunch

I don't quite understand what you are saying, but do you mean the barrier between the trunk and the cabin? If you deaden that, sound won't carry from your trunk into your cabin easily (from your sub's, if you have any)

he must mean the rear deck where the 6x9's are mounted, cover up any exposed metal that you can

Oh, I get what you mean now. You pretty much want to deaden any bare metal where the speakers are, if you have enough cash, everything in the car. Do the doors and where the rear speakers are.

Do as much as you can afford, you can do the entire panel if you want, or you can do just around area. The more the better!

then do not buy any dynamat, because it will just mean you will need to clean it up later. i have seen problems arise with dynamat, like when it gets warm it falls of on an inverted surface, like if you put it on the trunk lid, or when it gets cold it cracks if you touch it and so on...

it does not seem to be the same as it used to be a couple years ago.
