One month ago I installed components in my Subaru. The woofer is mounted in the factory door loaction and the tweeter is mounted right beside the side-view mirror (The black plastic trim above the window line).

When I first installed them I noticed a buzz in the driver side tweeter only - which varies in speed according to engine speed. I just assumed it was a bad ground.

At that time, the components were run just of the HU. Today I installed an amp for them, and I re-grounded the HU (I grounded it in 2 locations to make sure it was a good ground) and the sound is still there, even with the amplifier - still only in the left tweeter.

The sound is there with the HU both on and off . . . any ideas?

As Dukk is indicating it is induced noise. I would also check from behind the dash for a good RCA connection or a RCA near a noisy ignition wire/ ventilation wire, etc.

Thanks Dukk,
I'm going to swap RCA L/R at the amp (its easier to access then the back of the HU). If the sound stays on the Left then I will assume the problem is with the crossover location.

Any suggestions to consider where to put the crossover. Currently it is mounted high on the floor above the dummy pedal (footrest) on the driver's side.

I was afraid it would be induced noise and I can see why, the fuse panel is about 4" from the crossover - that's my guess what would be causing it.

Thanks

Agreed. I did it to satisfy John Vroom's possiblity of bad RCA interference. - The sound is still there with no RCA's plugged into the amp at all.
Tomorrow I will look for a new X-over location.
Any suggestions where to move the crossover? The whole driver's side of the car is laced with power wire.

an EMI shield might help. Simply put some aluminum foil (try the shield floating and connected to ground) around the xover (CAUTION!!! aluminum could short things out) or around the noise source. This issue can generally be solved by distance and shielding. There may be too many noise sources or the xover might be too sensitive.. but is is cheep and easy as long as you dont short anything out.

Hey it is better than my last suggestion
