Speaker upgrade

If I was to upgrade my speakers, would I need to change anything else? I'm talking door and dash speakers. Thanks for anything

Well if you plan on installing upgraded speakers that can work with the factory power you have to offer them and they will fit in the stock locations then the answer is "no" you will not have to change anything.

not near enough info. If its factory speakers you are replacing, what inpedence are they and how are they powered?

For instance, my car came with 2 ohm component speakers in 4 locations, factory powered by a 4 in 8 out amp. I replaced all speakers, amp, hu, everything.

If they are standard factory speakers powered directly by a standard factory hu, then yes, you can put in better speakers, which might sound a little better, but usually isn't as loud. Factory speakers are usually highly effecient, that way they use very low power with the illusion of being loud.

If you want better sound, replace the HU and speakers and get an appropriate amp for your application.

What kind of car is it?

If the stock speakers are ok right now you may find your biggest improvement in putting some more cleaner power to them and adding a sub if you like..

Let us know about the car, your music tastes and volume requirements.

I guess I should have given more info........It's a '98 golf. I have a sub and amp, and the speakers aren't stock but were installed by the previous owner so I don't know anything about them. I have a good sub & amp, but I listen to rock and even with the bass turned to the lowest the bass overpowers the singing, and melody.

Then yes, when you upgrade the speakers or even before you upgrade the speakers, add a amplifier. This will bring the speakers to life and provide both protection to those speakers and allow the system to be balanced for output. No more overwhelming bass response.

do you have a monoblock amp for your subs (single channel)??

you could add a 4 channel amp to power your speakers to get more volume and better sound
