Stealth Sub Install for 2001 GMC Jimmy
#1
Hey everyone, I need ideas for where to place a single or dual 8" subs so that I dont loose any cargo space in my 4 door jimmy.
I was thinking a single one in the center console or dual in a custom panel in the rear hatch.? I know you can put one in the place that holds the jack and stuff, but I dont want to relocate the jack either.
Any ideas? or do you know any company that has custom center consoles for this thing?
Thanks,
- Alterac

Remove the paneling on the tail gate and see if its deep enough to mount a sub. The tail gate can be the enclosure - you lose no cargo space and it looks pretty stealth. I've seen this done on full-size vans before. I don't know if your jimmy would have the same mounting depth, or cubic volume required for a sub.
This was something I wanted to do with my Subaru wagon but realized I only had 3 - 4" of mounting depth and about .3 - .4 cubes of air space. But your truck is bigger and has better potential. With some deadening, MDF and possilby filler/foam you could be in business.

Sounds like what Im going to be doing, Hopefully I can grab some measurements tommorow nite and see if their will be enough space. And I might have to replace the Hydrolic lifers to lift the extra weight of the enclosure and subs.
Then I can build a small amp rack into the sidepanel.

If your worried about weight when the gate lifts yup. Maybe consider making a enclosure out of fiberglass. its messy but if you take the time, it will work out in the end. Also if u need to make a square box for a glass job. Find a box with close dimensions and cover it with tinfoil and then make a glass copy of the box.
