ok, I was just wondering as far as acoustics go...

I can make it as rigid as I need.

I think Im gonna do resess the subs and amp on this box.

Also a curved face (the part facing the rear window) where the subs may point back & up. Not sure where Im going to point the subs.

As far as how big and what Im gonna do for a port... I have no idea.

I dont know anything about ports... I just want loud

I believe it was DWVW that said MDF was nearly a perfect material for box building.

But with enough effort steel, plastic, plexi, concrete, paper mache could work. The steel box will be incredibly heavy and will ring like a bell. Internal bracing will raise the resonant frequency so the sub shouldn’t excite the box too badly. Big advantage: the use of machine screws vice wood screws! It would be pretty cool to fab all the ports and connections using steel.

Use vacuum cleaner tubes or water pipes for ports

Once you know what sub you are going to use, then you can decide size of box, and size of ports. That is dependant on your gear.

thanks guys

Im starting to wonder if I should bother...

MDF is tried tested and proven, maybe I shouldnt mess with a good thing. It just sounded like it would be a good idea in my head...

I'll think about it in the next while

Since I see you are a total noob, I'll have to agree with everyone else and say just go with MDF... it will probably be far less work and should be lighter weight then a solid steel box...

On the otherhand if you think you can whip one up in an afternoon, I say go for it... 1/8 and a little bracing should definatly be good enough for 2 10wos... IMO...

Flex is a problem. However, weld some channel bracing into it. Anything is possible if you have the time, materials and patience.

There's issues with MDF too............. like it turns into "poo" when it gets wet.
