Will the following sub box design cause problems due to the very narrow section in it's middle? It is a sealed enclosure. All the measurements are outside dimensions. I am going to fiddle with the size of the two larger chambers to get the actual volume that I require. (the sizes are just to give you an idea what I am working with)

The only thing that is going to stay the same is the 4" height in the middle, that is about 20" long. I am using 3/4" MDF, which will only leave me 2.5" of actual airspace between the top and bottom of the centre section.



I am just trying to find out if the middle of the box is going to affect the volume of the box. Will the box volume be the entire thing, or is the centre section going to restrict it in any way?

I am guessing that it will work fine, because it is a sealed enclosure. If it were ported then it might give me trouble.

The sub going in is a Kicker Solobaric S12L7. I was hoping to get 2.0 cu/ft for a sealed enclosure. This according to Kicker would give me the best SQ bass.

If I was to use the narrow middle as the port, my box size would be very small. I am trying not to give up too much space.

This box is going in the back of a 2001 extended cab Sonoma. I may be trying to make to many compromises at the moment. I need to keep the rear seat usable.(it folds down on top of the short side on the left) The sub goes in the large side on the right. My amp is mounted on the back wall of the cab,(in the middle) which I do not want to block. Plus I am trying to avoid having a huge box sticking up when I open the third door.

If you have any suggestions that are close to this design, I'd like to hear them. This as of now, is my best idea.

The box should work quite well sealed.
I'd suggest heavy stuffing near the woofer, and tapering to nothing in the second chamber.
This is presuming the sub willbe mounted in the larger chamber.

 

Yes the sub will be mounted in the larger chamber. It will more then likely be firing up.

Your idea on stuffing sounds good. I was wondering what to do with it, I thought it might almost seal off the second chamber if I stuffed it everywhere.

I know, I know, don't seal an S12L7, but when I have such a limited space. Sealed seems to be the way to go. Kicker's suggested ported boxes are just to large.

As i said earlier, if someone has a better idea that fits even remotely close to my plan, I'm all ears.

On a side note, I just got inside from finishing the rest of the install. My P9 is in the dash, Premier components in kicks, JL coax's in the dash and Kicker amp is on the back wall. All that is left is the sub box !!
