sub cuts out

i would check if the negative and positive aren't touching when the bass hits
i had the same problem with a petra 10" the terminals were broken
so once the bass hits the amp would go in protection for a few seconds
then back on and off

When you turn it up and it cuts out does the power light on the amp cut out as well? When you ask if a bad ground could cause it the quick answer is yes but I still think that it's more a speaker issue. When a sub "goes" the resistance on the sub is lowered and then when you turn the volume up the amp cuts out because it can't handle the load on it. It could be other things but I would start there. Got another sub or speaker you could try ad see if it still cuts out?

MRV 1000? What are the ratings on this amp (Can't find anything)? Perhaps it's too much power for the TypeS, which has an RMS of 300W.
If this amp is the same as the MRP 1000, even if the sub is wired for 4 ohm, you're doubling the RMS. Perhaps the sub has been damaged by the amp, now the amp is going into protection since the circuit is 'broken'...
