Subs pound without the HU
Hey everyone,
I am new on this board. A friend sent me here to get a deal on an amp however I figure I would share the problem that I am having with my current setup. OK here goes
I have a Thump Model: T5406 amp which is an 800watt 4 channel amp. Originally I was using this amp to power my 4 speakers in my old car however I sold that heap and bought a new car and decided to try to use this amp to power my 2 infinity reference subs. Well today I had a friend help hook everything up because i am unfamilliar with that stuff and he knows it well. We ran into a snag when we got to the RCA because the amp has 2 inputs and I only have 1 RCA. All we did was hook up one channel and left the other open. He told me to go get RCA splitters and run both channels into the RCA.
I went out and got some RCA splitters tonight and did exactly what he said. Now when I turn the car on the subs start pounding the moment the deck lights up. I disconnect the splitters and revert it back to its old setup and its fine but only 1 sub will work as only 1 channel is getting any signal.
Any advice would be greatly apreciated. I am completely stumped when it comes to this stuff.
I should also add, my head unit is the Alpine 9815, subs are the Infinity Reference 12" 1230s, amp is Thump T5406.
Thanks in advanced for any advice that you guys might have.

What happens if you hook the one set of rcas to the other channel?
If the other speaker works fine i'd say you got a bad splitter.
If the sub starts pounding again theres prolly a problem with the amp.
g luck

The amp doesn't have a 2ch (or 4/3/2) switch I'm guessing (if it does set it on 2 and see what happens with just the original RCA into it.
If not plug the L rca into the one input of the amp and the R of the rca into the other input. You will then have input to both subs. See what it does.

IF i hook up the RCA to just one channel then just 1 sub pounds. When I turn the car on I get this sub bump right away when there is an RCA plugged into 1 channel but its just a quick bump and then the one sub will play while the other just sits there. I can't remember if by changing it from one channel to the other if the other sub started moving instead but I will try that tonight as soon as I get off work or when I get another smoke break.
as for the wiring. I will try wat you said with plugging the left into the one channel and the right into the other. The amp is set to 2 channel right now.

ok...i just went out for a smoke break and did what you said with the running of one RCA to one channel and the other to the other channel and both subs dance so that means my ebay specials work. w00t w00t!. So I guess its either
a) one or both splitters are toast
b) my amp hates me and wants to be replaced
I will test the splitters tonight once I get off work and see what the outcome is.
