Subwoofer Box Position
Subwoofer Box Position
Hello :
Is there any diference if i put the subwoofers facing the trunk (when u upen the trunk u can see the cone of the subs), facing the inner part of the car ( when u open the trunk u dont see the cone of the subwoofers) or facing up ?
I've eard that facing the trunk (when u upen the trunk u can see the cone of the subs) it gives some bass reflex or so.
My box is a sealed box.
Thanks for the imputs !

If you asking about bass increase depending on the postion of your box then yes it can make a difference. However I dont know how noticeable it would be. For example my car (00 Monte Carlo) was louder with the box pulled as close to the front of my trunk. After using a Term Lab Meter I was able to gain another 0.2db (again not noticeable to the ear) by turning it a bit to the left. So in short yes it makes a difference where you put it.. but it may not be noticeable.
Every car works different what worked in mine may not work for yours. If you can get access to a Term Lab or Audio Control meter that would be in your best interest.

In my trunk my subs were about the same facing up (port back) and facing back (port back), but they are noticeably louder with everything faced forward, totally sealed off from the trunk (obviously you can only do this with seats that fold). Facing everything forward without sealing the sides of the box to the car was quietest by a ways in my case.
As mentioned above, take it with a grain of salt; every car's different. By the way, port your box.

Why should I port my box ?
Most big spl system have sealed box . NO vented box are not the best , and NO vented box does not provide more bass. most people think about that .
Is all depends on what you working on. Sealed for me is good.

in my car, 04 300m chrysler, the bass output is greatest with the box facing the rear of the trunk and about 6 inches from the back(cones 6" from the trunk rear). However, it's most inconvenient, and it doesn't sound better...just louder. I therefore chose to face it to the interior and built it to fit under the package shelf. After installing it properly by bolting it to the floor, and sealing the edges as mentioned in a prior post, I noticed it was just as loud if not louder. My suggestion is to try it out in all the positions, and then put it where you'd like it and properly install it...bolt it to the floor, use 1" mdf for the box if possible, and if it's facing the interior...seal it as much as you can. Give the bass only one way to go, and don't lose energy from the box moving and flexing. The advantage is a usable trunk, if that's important to you.
box in my car
i just did this experiment this past weekend.
I installed a sealed box with 1 12'' sub.
It sounds louder facing the back of the car rather than right up against my
back seats.
Good thing I don't use my trunk for anything.
hehe

WOW. Thanks for the lesson dude... Maybe I'll finally hit my goal if I seal my box instead! Hmph - and to think that I was mislead like "most people" with my ported box....
