Upgrades for my Jeep - Please Help!
Hey everyone,
So after taking my jeep into the shop to get the bluetooth fixed for the 20th time, I have decided to scrap the vehicle's stock entertainment system, and replace it with something thats more fitted for me.
I am looking at the new Alpine IVA-W505/P1. From what I have seen, this is my dream head unit, and after crunching numbers, I see that I can afford it.
I have done many basic installs before, but this one seems like its going to be a little more complex, so hopefully some of you can help me out.
My vehicle is a 2006 Jeep Commander - Limited v8 HEMI.
Currently, it has the stock premium boston acoustics system with the RAQ headunit (6disc changer, no nav)
I also have the stock video entertainment system in the back, and uconnect bluetooth (which sucks).
What I am wanting to do is install the Alpine IVA-W505/P1 headunit, run it into my stock boston amp and stock boston speakers as I am happy with the sound as it is now (I have a pioneer sub as well, but we wont go there, thats straight forward as can be.)
I need to know if wiring the Alpine IVA-W505/P1 to my stock amplifier is possible, and also if I will be able to somehow make the IVA-W505/P1 feed an external video output to the LCD at the back. I am willing to scrap the DVD player unit in the back, and the uconnect bluetooth on the mirror, but I would like to still be able to use the LCD at the back to display video output from the new deck.
Any suggestions, comments, etc?
Thanks in advance.

All that any good installer can do. Soundgate and a few other companies sell a module to integrate into the OEM amplifier.
Since you have this thing called Winter in alberta I'd stay far away from the 505/p1 as the nav is seriously fickle. a Kenwood Excellon 8140 has all the same features with none of the bugs the alpine has.

I took would stay faaaaaar away from the Alpine and the tempermental nav system. The Kenwood is a great model (be it discontinued now) and the Eclipse AVN726E is a stellar unit. Here is a link so that you can go through it.
ECLIPSE DVD-Video/USB Multi-Source Receiver/ 7inch Wide Screen Monitor/Navigation/ Built-in Bluetooth wireless technology AVN726E | Fujitsu Ten
A good installer can find the video input line to the overhead screen and tie it into the video out of the Eclipse, not a big problem and I have actually done that on a Commander as well. As far as the audio interface goes to the factory system, definitely get a good installer. If you need a hand with that, I will find you a highly capable one in Calgary to deal with.

Thanks for the help guys.
I will be sure to stay away from the Alpine unit. Those other units are nice, but I have never used the brands before, I may just have to take your word for it. Would you recommend anything from the pioneer or clarion line that will serve the same purpose?
To MR2NR:
If you could find me the info for a good installer, I would be very greatful. I have gone to an install shop called AutoTemp before, they seem to be pretty good, but then again, I want to make sure that my car is in extremely good hands.. its my baby.

Wow... 3 replies in a row from me. spam
DVD/nav unit with a removable faceplate.... does that exist or no..
Thinking of winter, I can see that being problematic.. may crack the LCD or something. we do have -40 C days where my car has to sit outside.
Also thinking about theft. I dont like theft. Removable faceplates help with that too. The car does not really have an alarm that will notify me if anything is up. It does have a GPS tracable alarm if the car is stolen, but honestly if i was the thief, I wouldnt bother with the car, i would just take the deck and the sub box and amps.

I ship..... these types of units do not have a detachable faceplate. The Eclipse though does have a theft system that renders the unit useless if stolen. You need to give the unit a digital code (that is known only to you and can be changed as many times as you want). Once power has been disconnected (as in a theft or a dead battery), you have 5 chances at getting the unit powered up again by giving the unit the right digital code. Wrong code = locked up unit. PM me for pricing information.

Is there something similar to the eclipse that will have a removable faceplate? Not too sure bout the pioneer line, but it looks like they might. How good are those units..
I really did like that eclipse... lol.. it looks sexy.
Also, what is the aproxx cost for the installation for my vehicle, given that its done by someone who knows what they are doing.. and not future shop (wouldnt trust my car there for 2 minutes)
