The Weirdest thing..

I was driving and listening to music for about 25 minutes, which is a relatively low amount of time because i go to school 45 minutes away. When I parked, and went into a store for about 20 minutes and came back my subs were not on. I get home and my amp is on, but my subs aren't making any noise. The subs do not making a scratching noise when pushed in, all my wires have been pulled out and re-screwed in, and nothing seems to be working. Any ideas? It's an alpine m1000 and 2 clarion pro audio subs.

The amp might not be getting a signal from the deck, check the wires, if music plays from the speakers than maybe the deck to amp wire came out, I dunno if the amp would turn on without signal input. Your subs might be blown and not stratching too. Check the voltage on the subs to see if they're blown, I think they should be near the same, is that right someone? If you don't have a V meter, if you have a subwoofer laying around that can take 250 rms (hook up to the largest ohm for smallest watts), turn the gains down and see if that moves free air, if it does than your subs are blown or the amp is kaput, if it doesn't work than check the deck to amp wire, if you replace the wire and it still doesn't work than the amp is kaput, if music plays from the speakers than it's probably not a technical problem with the deck. Check the voltage first.

Anyone know if the Mach 5 Audio IXL series would be a good replacement?

do continuity checks of your signal (make sure the RCA's are connected)

Verify the speaker resistance (digital multimeter across the speaker terminals)

make sure some mute hasn't been activated at the HU

Get an MP3/CD/walkman player, a 3.5mm to RCA cable, then directly plug it into the amp. If you get an output, you know its from the RCA's to the deck. Other wise, amp/sub.

Use the DMM to measure the resistance (of each Voice coil), and continuity between the voice coils (if DVC)

I had this issue and my RCA's crapped out on me. Changed them and everything worked fine.

great that is the next step, to find out where the proper functioning stops and the FUBAR begins, this checks the HUs proper functionality
