Will this work?

I plan to mount my sub box and amps on 1/2" MDF board vertically in my trunk and then add another board infront of that with holes for the amps and sub, just to cover up the wiring. I would then cover the outer board with cloth or suede.

I was thinking of using 1/2" MDF for the cover board but now maybe I could use something thinner to save wieght. Can I use something thinner than the 1/2" MDF and if so what would you suggest?

Where can you buy suede?

Thanks for helping the newb.

as long as you are not planning on putting any weight on the amp rack you should be ok. you can use 1/4 inch but make sure that you have a good support underneath if you can i would stick with 1/2 inch.

Both the 1/2" and the 1/4" would be mounted parrallel to each other and vertical so there would be no weight at all on the 1/4" board.

Thanks for the help.

If there is no weight, then you will be fine. Trim panels can be made out of whatever you like.
