I'm rewiring my system, and had a couple questions.
I'm running 0 guage wiring from the battery to the trunk, dropped to 4 guage through a distro block, and into the amp.

1. I have a 150A ANL fuse for under the hood (on the 0 guage)...is there an ideal distance I should keep it from the battery? I have heard under 18 inches is good...but is it the closer the better?

2. I have an 80A AGU fuse for the 4 guage wire after the distro block...should this be kept closer to the distro block or closer to the amp?

Always fuse as close to the 'split' as possible - the reasoning being that the section of wire (4 awg in your case) after the distro block, but before the fuse, will not be sufficiently protected by a 150A fuse (4 awg is rated to 125A recommended max). This would be the same for the section of 0 awg at the battery that runs before the fuse. (If there was a short, the sections/lengths that run before fuses generally will burn; we just mitigate the loss(es) to a foot or so of wire and not the entire car). If you can get a fused distro block, that's even better.
Long story short: keep wire runs before the fuse as short as possible.

Hey thanks a lot for the help. I'll definitely do that. I have put the 150A ANL fuse about 5 inches away from the battery terminal, and when I get to the distro block, I'll fuse it immediately after.

Does this type of fusing have any effect on the battery? I was hoping to get less dimming by doing this....is that possible?

 

Have you upgraded any of the wires under your hood? At the very least, a fresh ground from the battery to the body or frame will help with the lights. If you can run at least a piece of 4ga (preferably 2ga) there, it will help. Upgrading the alternator wires as well is the right way to do it....

I usually replace the battery terminals at the same time. I find it easier to work with the ones that use plain stripped wire and a couple of allen keys to hold it all together....

 

Yeah I am planning on running a 0 guage to the stock grounding point on the engine, and three 4 guage cables from that to other grounding points. I'm using the battery terminals from knukonceptz, which have the allen key inputs for 0 and 4 guage wires.

Right now, I need a couple of 12 guage ring terminals for the stock power wiring, but I can't seem to find any at home
