Yes, I've done a search..........

I have a Clarion in dash touch screen DVD player. It's OK, I guess. I'm ready to dive into surround sound. For 500 to 600 bucks, I can get Clarion's processor to achieve Dolby Pro Logic II, 5.1, DTS, etc. Right now I have an Audio Control DQX with the digital dash controller. Overall, the sound is pretty good. Imaging is pretty darn good and so is the tonal balance. However, I've had better sound in the car before. I love having multimedia in the car, so I guess having a good system as opposed to a great system is a compromise. I've been reading up on the Alpine PXA H700 lately, and it sounds like a really versatile unit.

Questions.....

Can I make the PXA H700 work with my Clarion VRX935VD? The deck has digital out and so does the CD changer it controls. Clarion uses C-Net for connecting their devices, so I guess it's like Alpine's Ai-Net. Because the PXA H700 comes with the control unit, everything should be kosher, correct?

Going 5.1 would mean the AC DQX would have to go. I guess I can sell it for whatever price to help lessen the hit on the wallet. Combine that with my plans to purchase the Clarion processor for 500 bucks anyway, and I'm laughing........

If I go with the PXA H700 and don't like the surround part of it, can I defeat those features and go with conventional setup and just use time alignment, Xover, and eq features?

I'm hoping I can, so I can kill lots of birds with one stone.

All my plans will be for naught, if the two systems are not compatible. The Clarion unit has controls already built in for the processor that it was meant to mate with. Interracial marriages have worked before, so..............

Anyone out there have suggestions or experience with the above?

Thanks in advance.

BTW, I see processing being like make up. If youz ugly, the more make up you need. If youz really ugly, maybe it's not worth your time and effort. If you're pretty, make up will accentuate the good and hide any minor imperfections.

the 701 or 700 will work you will have to buy the 70i and the controller or the 700 where the 2 pieces come together because your deck is not an alpine and yes fiber optic in and you can shut off the dolby surround processor and use only the eq and crossover thats too bad you dont have the dqs i might have consider a trade good luck and enjoy

701? What's that?

the 700 comes with the controller already......... so the 701 is for people who don't need the controller?

Thanks for the info, btw.

the audio control piece has a better made dsp chip than the alpine, and the tolerences are better but the alpine has way more features. contact chris at audio control and he will give you the lowdown on there components +or- tolerences and who makes them and then call alpine and ask them for this and they will tell you "huh dont know what you are talking about" so all i am left to do is open one up at work and uhg not pretty when up to the audio control, one comes with a one yr warranty and one comes with a 5 yr warranty and for good reason. sorry people who like the alpine, its damn fine, and lots of useless...... but very cool features but for reliablilty and flexability the better faster more acurate dsp chip....go audiocontrol and get a qualified tech to tune the car and you will be very happy. most of the top cars in iasca and usaci use audio control and for good reason.

I already have the DQX and I am very happy with it. However, I cannot use it with a surround sound system. Unless I go with a DQS. The Alpine piece comes with the surround sound processor (encoder/decoder) built in, as well as, time delay and crossover controls. I was going to spend my money on Clarion's DSP anyway. If I don't like surround sound, I can, according to the replies I'm getting, defeat the surround sound part. What more can one ask for?

Audio Control stuff is well built - no doubt about it. I bought an AC unit in the first place, because of its quality. That's not in question here. If AC built what I needed, I'd get it.

Also, it doesn't matter to me who won what at whatever event and with whatever equipment. In the end, the judge that matters the most is me.

Personally, I'm not an Alpine fan. I have never had an Alpine piece in my car up to this point. This piece, however, looks like it'll fit into my plans. Alpine is a respected brand name, so I don't think I'm taking any kind of a risk by getting it.

sorry to get a bit off topic, but if it comes down to an alpine piece or clarion "junk" then go alpine all the way. i have worked with the alpine and find that it will do everything that you have asked and do it very well!

Just downloaded the owner's guide and read it...... holy crap, the unit is definitely jam packed with features. Definitely worth the money. Defro, can I use the built in analyzer display as an RTA? I guess one has to toggle back and forth to double check. The auto time alignment sounds cool, but does it do a decent job? I would most likely go manually. The only thing that doesn't work for me is that it doesn't have blue illumination (no big deal).
