94 Cavalier....rims and tires...what size?
wow, thanks for the input guys, I didn't expect to even see this thread after the weekend.
I've seen 2nd Gen cavs with Beretta GTZ rims which is a 16" rim and the tires are usually 215/50.....they look cool and I've never heard of anybody having problems but with an extra 2" of of rim and some extra width, I figured it could be a problem to have 18's.
If I have to cut a little, it's ok, but I won't be removing and entire inner fender just to have 18's like some of those minitruck guys do.
But anyway, we'll see what happens, I'd sure love to have my car done before winter, but money is an evil thing...it seems to up and dissappear.

Just a little update.
Due to some problems with my van, I should be driving the Cavalier by Wednesday, thursday at the latest.
I think I'm gonna con my buddy into giving me his GTZ rims (16") and I'm gonna have them painted grey, but for now they are black.....anybody wanna comment on how black rims would look on a turquoise Cavalier...it's that blueish green that was popular back in the early-mid 90s. Eventually the car will be dark green with the grey rims.

Rule of thumb: the ONLY cars that look good with black rims, are black cars and white rims with white cars. Anything other than that is CHEESEBALL. Get those black rims sandblasted or something to strip the paint off and expose the aluminum, then have them clear powdercoated.
This whole gunmetal color craze is, IMO, ugly too.

I am going to assume your Cavalier is quite close to my Beretta since the stock wheelsize is approximately the same. My car is lowered with Eibach Sports or whatever (same ones as your car would have 3802.something I believe)
By this, I have tried the following combos so far (wheels and tyres) with the following results:
- 205/55/16 on 7" wheels (stock Z26) no rub, snow tyres
- Same as above, but Goodyear RSA, no rub
- 225/50/16 on 7" wheels (stock Z26), rub in reverse coming off a driveway (ie: during lots of suspension travel), rubs internal splash shield, Goodyear RSA
- 225/40/18 on 7" wheels (stock offset), rub @ extremes, looked 'large' and somewhat goofy, Nankang tires I think they were called
- 225/50/16 on 7" wheels (stock Z26), rub @ extremes, Kumho Ecsta Supra
- 225/45/17 on 7.5" wheels (not sure of offset), rub @ extremes, looks pretty ideal to me WRT sizing, Pirelli P-Zero, BBS RK wheels
Again, these are BERETTA opinions but your cavalier is pretty similar. I agree that over 17" on our vehicles is beyond what is generally agreed upon to look 'good' without getting 'goofy'.
I disagree with black wheels and white wheels going only on their equally colored cars. I personally think Acuras look nice with black inner w/polished lip and those factory Firebirds (yellow car w/black wheels) look pretty good too.
Oh, and I am POSITIVE that going overthe factory wheel height will cause the tyre to hit the strut tower's lower spring retention plate. Also, going too wide will make the tyre either hit the strut tower (widened too far inwards) OR will hit the fender on suspension travel (widened too far outwards).

I'm thinking of using a 215/50/16 (beretta GTZ rims)
I'll probablly go Kuhmo or something like that.
Was gonna look into the Fuzion tires, but they may be a bit expensive.
Anyone have an oppinion about Continential's sport tires?

I love that look, the black with the chrome lip is hot, although it's not for every car.
My friend bought rims for his Beretta GTZ, they are 16x7 6 spoke and they're black with the chrome lip and I don't like them at all on his car, they just don't look right. But the stock rims are pretty sweet looking.

Car will also be painted in the next couple years either black or blue, she ain't stayin silver.
I love that style rim.
Another style I really like and could probably never afford is that 8 spoke MOMO rim.....I'll see if I can find a pic.
I suppose I should throw up some pics of my car soon too....the stereo is in except the Utopia's, it just needs to be cleaned up and a decent looking install done.
But for the most part I'm focussing on looks and engine. I'm not sure because I haven't looked into it yet, but I don't think there's alot that can be done to the 2.2 for more power. So I'll try to find a decent cold air intake and K&N filter and possibly a header and exhaust later.
