How about Toulene? A good octane booster I hear but has brought some criticism since it's so cheap and readily available (Home Depot) that it couldn't possibly be good for your engine.

Y'all spell toluene funny...

I' don't think the exposure from pouring some into your tank will cause too much cellular damage. Just don't brush your teeth with it.

As for acetone or toluene in your gas, I don't think the alleged benefits are greater than driving sensibly and the longer term disadvantages may be more costly.

Dukk, yeah that was it, and yes, yummie
As for the chemical solution, the only thing I can think of is what it will do to the enviornment.., but that's another issue to some.
Driving sensibly.., hmmm that can almost be valid as an oxymoron.

I do Autobody for a living. Here's a few facts on both.

Acetone
If you are exposed to acetone, it goes into your blood which then carries it to all the organs in your body. If it is a small amount, the liver breaks it down to chemicals that are not harmful and uses these chemicals to make energy for normal body functions. Breathing moderate- to-high levels of acetone for short periods of time, however, can cause nose, throat, lung, and eye irritation; headaches; light-headedness; confusion; increased pulse rate; effects on blood; nausea; vomiting; unconsciousness and possibly coma; and shortening of the menstrual cycle in women.
Swallowing very high levels of acetone can result in unconsciousness and damage to the skin in your mouth. Skin contact can result in irritation and damage to your skin.
The smell and respiratory irritation or burning eyes that occur from moderate levels are excellent warning signs that can help you avoid breathing damaging levels of acetone.
Health effects from long-term exposures are known mostly from animal studies. Kidney, liver, and nerve damage, increased birth defects, and lowered ability to reproduce (males only) occurred in animals exposed long-term. It is not known if people would have these same effects.

Toulene is a well known addictive substance. (Glue sniffing) It gives feelings of intoxication. Causes sleepiness, dizziness, headache, muscular weakness, confusion, impaired co-ordination, and visual impairment. It is neurotoxic causing neurobehaivioral changes. Causes changes in Liver and kidneys, erosion of the nose, degeneration of respiratory tract skin. Chronic abuse causes damage to the brain in the cerebral area and causes brain stem atrophy.16 Causes reproductive toxity.15 Accumulates in blood and subcutaneous fat if insufficient clearance time between exposures. Irritates eyes and upper respiratory tract. Toulene intereacts with other human exposures such as alcohol ingestion. Pattern recognition is disturbed, by both Alcohol and Toulene. Toulene effects accuracy more than Alcohol. Toulene combined with Alcohol caused performance and mood to decline more than for either one separately.

As for in tank car use, I think destroying plastic hoses/parts and rubber o rings, would definately be enough for me to shy away from the use of both.
Power to you guy's though. lol

they did a test and put a rubber o rign in a glass full of acetone and one 50/50 mix and then one pure gasoline. there was only about a 2% difference after 6 months. i think thats preety good proof that sits not gonna eat your car.

2% doesn't seem like much thats true, but any failure isn't an option for me. I wonder what NASA now thinks about 2% o ring failure.
