cdnow.com

also check out best buy, their cds are cheap. I picked up weezer (blue cd) for $5.99 and had a $5 off coupon so it was less than $2 for a genuine cd

I have a few more left so Im going to pick up some more.

what type of music are you into? If you like the underground house/techno/trance scene then you are missing a lot.

I have a beef with Daft and people like Oakenfold ... 3 yrs ago Oakenfold was good, now he's out for the money

Look into people like Tiesto, Marco V, DJ Dan (not the idiot from z1035), Anne Savage, Donald Glaude, etc.

I love my music and I get pissed when GREAT DJ's go mainstream.

Daft Punk may have sold out, but I'd see them live in a heartbeat.

I mean, its Daft Punk!

Although Oakenfold can keep his trance in his pants where it belongs

(Edit): If you dig Daft, keep your eyes peeled for an animated movie called Interstella 5555 by Leiji Matsumoto, a full length anime feature scored to the Discovery album.

Daft Punk has ALOT of good stuff out there. Most of it has been mentioned. I have a few unreleased bits on vinyl (never released on CD). The only thing that was left out was Interstella 5555.

MB - Daft Punk was always mainstream. When your debut album is released by Virgin records, you are definitely a mainstream act. If they wanted to stay "underground" then they would of signed with a small independent label. Chances are if they did, the would of eventually signed a distribution deal with a major label since the tracks would of done just as well.

The genius behind DP it satisfies the mainstream by giving it what they want. Their music is still very innovative and hasn't become diluted with alot of cheese. Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel De Homem-Christo have done tonnes of projects outside of DP.

Thomas Bangalter created his own label Roule and released a number of tracks...Anyone remember Stardust's Music Sounds Better with You... a huge underground and commercial success. That was the only release that was avaliable on CD. Trax on the Rocks EP 1 and 2, Spinal Scratch, Together, etc were only released on vinyl. Very underground, very successfull tracks. The latest from the Roule label is Together's So Much Love to Give. Unfortunately its been tainted by 103.5 airplay.

Guy-Manuel De Homem-Christo also developed his own label Crydamoure which has been very successful is pushing the frontiers of French House music. Tracks like Hysteria, Wrath of Zeus, Intergalactik Disco, Boogie Shell, etc were all wicked underground french house tracks.

As for selling out...I'd have to disagree.

In the case of Paul Oakenfold that is definitely another matter. Oakenfold goes back to the late 1980s. I really don't see why people make such a big deal about him. His is a good DJ and producer but thats about it. I wouldn't call him the greatest DJ in the world today or three years ago. I guess what really helped was that he happened to be the resident DJ at the Ministry of Sound when he rode the whole Trance wave in the late 1990s.
