Any self proclaimed computer geniuses?

Well, I sent my computer to be repaired at future shop. It turns out the motherboard needs to be replaced. They told me I needed one that had a Duron 800 and a PC133 SD Ram. Now this is basically chinese to me. I looked on ebay and they had tons of motherboards but I don't know which would work. Can someone see if they can find some that match those specs and could you tell me how much it would cost to install? Thanks.

First mistake might have been taking it to Future Shop but that aside .. The equipment you are replacing is fairly old now and you will have problems finding it "new". You could get the parts from eBay for a good price. Just make sure the motherboard you buy is compatible with the Duron series of AMD processors and takes SD Ram. You can then hook it up with your old processor and RAM. However, if you wanted to spend a little more money this might be a good opportunity to upgrade with a new/faster mobo/processor/RAM and just hook up your hard drive etc. to the new setup.

For close to what it will cost you to get what Future **** says to get (i mean the **** in terms of computer technicians there that i have dealt with) you can upgrade to some much better toys....Upgrades go for as low as $200 these days, depending on what you wanna replace. You are unfortunately in that spot where you need say, do I spend $125 on used stuff now that is the same as what I had, or do I spend an extra $100 on new stuff with a warranty that is a much better performer....
Just think of it in terms of car audio...Your 4 year old cd-deck dies....Do you search out an exact replacement, or do you take the few bucks more it would cost and get something new and shiny?
Just some thoughts.....If you need more help, email me at andrew@atnet.ca

Basically what your looking for is a "socket A" motherboard. There are alot of factors though in choosing a motherboard. If you have a video card, either PCI or AGP, then I'd go for something like the AOpen AK77-333 which goes for 85 bucks CDN. It can be found here:

If you have any questions feel free to email me or leave a private message. Good luck.

They're telling you you need a Duron 800 and PC133 RAM when you have a mobo problem? Lol, sounds like you just have that configuration and need a board to match its specs. Man, Computer talk at FS and other places is like car audio - anyone can get misled by a dumbass salesman. hahahahahaha
What problem were you having anyway?
The AK77 would work too and let you upgrade your CPU a bit better.
