Sony had a deal with Ford to provide subwoofer systems for the Focus. Rockford Fosgate is supplying Nissan with woofers and amps for the Sentra. Kicker just signed a deal with Chrysler for the same deal in the SRT-4...
Why, because it's easier to them to drop it in at the factory than for people to have to pick and choose. The percentage of people who buy aftermarket audio is shrinking, do the manufacturers are going to the source..

MY friend from work bought a Sentra with that RF package.
Its an 8" in a tube, I think, with a RF Hu and various speakers. It sounds quite nice, really.
Just curious on the cost of packages like this, from dealerships. I think he mumbled that it added only like 500 onto his purchase price or something.
I suppose if the 'little guy' aftermarket dealer was worried about FS and Best Buy, he must be shakin in his boots at the buying power of car makers now

i have a 03 sentra se-r spec v
now i did get the car with the sport package, which gave me things like the sunroof, key less entry, anti theft, a 300 watt RF stereo (more rant later), ABS (NOT STANDARD), and side airbags
ok on the the RF stereo.
RF HU, doubt it, maybe the logo but thats about it.
tweeters in the a pillars......NISSAN stock jobs
front door speakers.....Clarion
rear speakers.....hmmm NISSAN stock
sub.....RF by the looks of it, took the whole thing out (enclosure and all) didn't even really bother to check to see if it was really RF.
amp.....says nissan on it has nissan parts, maybe if i open it up, it will give me clues that i dont need. meaning its a hunk o'crap.
needless to say i love the car, awesome bang for the buck. the RF stereo comprises of more stock equiptment than they advertise. and honestly sounds better than the base stock stereo.
but there is NO way that its 300 watts. maybe that the 300 watts peak numbers that RF is using now adays but i dunno. i'm tired and i wanna curl up and sleep but i'm at work so i cant.
for the average consumer that really doesnt give 2 ****s about the stereo, and i know your out there, dont get the premium stereo unless its stuffed into a package that has stuff you really want like a sunroof or side airbags or abs.
sorry for the long post

I have the "premium" system in my 2001 Grand Cherokee and it isn't that bad. The only real critisism that I can fault Jeep for is that bass is REALLY boomy.
My truck came with a Jeep enclosure, 10" sub that was installed flush againt the back seats that sounded very bad. I took it out after owning the car for less than an hour and has been sitting in my garage ever since..

hit the nail on the head. Most of these systems are just rebadged Mexico crap. I have seen every variation of the Infinty Chrysler system and it is just rebadged factory stuff. People say the Deck is Infinity, which is great until I point out that Infinity doesn't make head units and the one with the Infinity screenprinting looks exactly like the factory low end head unit, so no it's not made by Infinity. So the speakers must be made by Infinity right, wrong, I am sure they may have some design input (or maybe they don't, who really knows?) but they look exactly like regular Chrysler Speakers but with little amps on them (sometimes). They are crap compared to even the lowest end Infinity Aftermarket speakers. But the average consumer will never know that will they.
SPL is still doing very well in retail so the subs are 'original equipment' in a lot of vehicles. They just aren’t very serious subs and less serious amplification for the most part. The Ford premium JBL system in my 1990 had POS JBL amps and two 6x9 subs (they only thing that was still kicking 14 years later). SQ is making some serious inroads with the Lexus -Mark Levinson (the company not the man) system, the Ford GT40 has a McIntosh MX406 head unit.
Unfortunately Infiniti and Acura have Bose systems stinking up the airwaves
