anyone else's Outlook or (OE) randomly not connect to the shaw servers?

This is kinda pissing me off. While back, we tossed in a rtr...or well my landlords had some professional larry do it. While after...week or two...my bro couldn't connect to the shaw mail server thru OE or Outlook whatever he uses. I said well it can't be our connection, cause i'm on the same network and i connect fine. If i connect fine it can't be shaw. After him getting pissed off he called shaw only to have it start workin just as they answered.
Now about a month later, i all of a suddent can't send or receive email. Yet i can still send receive thru webmail, so i know it's not their fault, least i don't think it is. I have no firewalls, cause i run the rtr and my trial ended. I run AVG which does scan my email (which i tried disabling, along with shutting down AVG all together). I have no other firewalls/antivirus including windows firewall, nor do i have service pack 2.
I cannot send or receive email, i get this error respectively (with shawmail.ca using OE):
------------------------------------------------
The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'shawmail', Sever: 'shawmail.ca' Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL):No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number 0x800CCC0E
------------------------------------------------
w/server names shawmail
------------------------------------------------
The host 'shawmail' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'shawmail', Sever: 'shawmail', Protocol: POP3, Port:110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error:1101, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D
Even went so far as to try roaming ports 469 and 995 to no avail.
Tried setting the acct up in Outlook and had no luck. Anyone have any bright ideas?

arg - went searching the shaw page and found my answer, seems to work now:

My router/firewall requires that I provide the full mail server names.
Although most security products will allow the use of aliases (shawmail), some products require the full server name. Please use the mail server name that corresponds to the closest service area to you from the list below:
Victoria - shawmail.gv.shawcable.net
Nanaimo - shawmail.no.shawcable.net
Vancouver - shawmail.vc.shawcable.net
Interior BC - shawmail.ok.shawcable.net
Fort McMurray - shawmail.ed.shawcable.net
Edmonton/Red Deer - shawmail.ed.shawcable.net
Calgary - shawmail.cg.shawcable.net
Saskatoon - shawmail.ss.shawcable.net
Winnipeg/Ontario - shawmail.wp.shawcable.net
Note: using the full mail server names above could cause email access issues if future changes are made

because some people like to able to open up 1 program that weill obviously get there email, instead of clicking links through sites and signing in everytime you need to check your email (although in some cases you dont need to sign in)many think that the program oe will cause less problems.

I don't know if i'd call OE or any other third party email program a mirror, but i agree in that all they do is connect to the pop3 mail server and smtp server and send/receive info
