^^^My concern was possibly getting bad crap from the old harddrive onto the new harddrive if I put it into the new computer. If you read my previous post. There are only several things I absolutely want/need from the old harddrive. Which is kinda why I wasn't going to bother actually hooking it up to the new computer.

you said youre afraid of stuff that might be in the registry......install old hard drive as a slave to the first - copy what program install files, ****, and music you might need and then format it.
If you don't boot from that drive then generally whatever spyware might be lodged inside the registry and what not is not gonna somehow fest itself onto your main hard drive as it's not even being accessed. Further more you'd have to copy a program including it's registry entries for spyware lodged in the registry to make a difference. Whether you do this by hooking both hard drives up to the pc or copy'n thru a crossover cable, you're still gonna copy the same stuff.
Generally speaking spyware won't itself, least not to my knowledge - i've only ever seen virus's do that.

^^^ I just popped open the new computer. Seems there wouldn't be room for the other harddrive. The CD-ROM and CD-R/DVD+RW take up both the top slots. And then the harddrive sits vertical in the front of the computer. There is no spot to slide in an additional harddrive. My guess as to why they made this particular computer like this was because it has a 160GB harddrive on it. I suppose there is no need to add a second harddrive other than to transfer files.

If your just hooking up the old HD to transfer files you can have it sit outside the case and still be hooked up or if you have the tower on its side sit it somewhere the hd's don't go in the CD ROM slots lol HD's go under the floppy there should be slots for them in there i have 3-4 slots left for my HD's

^^^ HD's don't go in the CD-ROM slots?!?! Are you freakin' serious?!?! Man thanks for clearing that up for me. I would not have imagined... I wasn't saying they did. I was simply exaplining how the inside of the PC was setup. As far as hooking the HD up to the computer and just having it sit there... Well, that could be done but there is A LOT of s hit inside this computer. And I am not exactly sure where everything would plug into. I just don't want to be pulling wires out of anything. So it's not a big deal. Yeah yeah people can talk all they want about how easy it is... well the computer was a freakin' grand just for the CPU. I think I'll leave it alone and do it this way just to be sure my dumba$$ doesn't accidentally mess something up. I already moved the few things I needed to discs so I am all good. It just would have been nice not to do that which is why I started this thread in the first place. But I had to do it a little bit different OH WELL. Thanks for all the replies. CANADIANS RULE!!! But not as much as Americans! WOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Calm down there. She was just stating the obvious (seems to be necesary for most all americans.) Since you've got your panties in a knot worrying about something that's not going to be a problem (spyware working it's way over) head down to a computer store, or even london drugs, and pick up a crossover ethernet cable. Plug both computers together, and start copying.
