Question Cell Phone (Telus) issues. What are my options?

Hey folks,

I'm working with a Telus Motola Krzr K1m. It's maybe 8 months old and I think i purchased a 2 year warranty with it (minute chance it may have been 3 years). It's the second phone on this 3 yr contract as my old lg8100 died about 2 months after the 1yr warranty. Contact is up in April 2009.

I replaced the battery once due to it seemingly not lasting very long, like with limited usage (maybe 10 texts sent and received) it was dead by near dead by 6pm (6am getup). So 12 hours and near dead - new battery, I think made that better. I'm comparing this to an LG8100 I had previously that would go nearly 2 days on limited use.

Lately, and totally intermittently i've noticed the following:
- 90% of the time it doesn't play a beep or anything when you're on a call and the phone is near die'n.
- one day it wouldn't make any noise, not when i turned the volume up to hear the annoying ringer volume example, not when someone called or i spoke into it, nothing. removing and reseating the battery fixed that.
- sometimes when texting the keypad will light up, sometimes it won't, and it can change through out the same text mssage if you stop for a few moments
- More recently a few times when i open the display there's no display, like it's off. Close an open it a time or two and it's there.
- Today same thing, it said full charge last night at 10pm, so i disconneted it, didn't use it through out the night at all, sent/received about 8 texts through out hte day, went to check at at 5pm when i was off work and it was blank. opened and closed it a time or two then pushed power to find out hte battery was completely dead.

Problem with all this is it's totally intermittent. I seriously doubt anyone could reproduce any of this on command, although I think it is getting worse.

I have changed minor things on my phone file system, removed camera noise, changed the startup picture, and added some ringtones for myself through bitpim.

If i go into a telus store (the one where i got it), what are they likely going to give me for options? Send it away? replace it? I've seemingly misplaced the cable, but will the changes i've made to the phone make them complain at all or hurt my chances of getting things fixed?

This is my only phone, so I can't really afford to be without it. I have no land-line.

Thanks in advance for the help folks

hah...alright thanks for the feedback, but thats OK.

Went into telus, started to explain to the chick issues, and she's like so you wanna send your phone in for service. I'm like what other options do i have...she's like none. So i'm like ok. They give me an LG8100 loaner (ironic that it's hte first phone i had that died on me).

Anywho, she didn't seem interested in what was wrong, tried to name some stuff, and she was kinda disinterested, this chick was no where near as helpful as the previous chick that worked at this telus place.

Anyways, called telus today, checked if i had the right phone plan. It's currenlty like this:

$40 for 350 daytime minutes
$15 for 10 vm's, caller id, and unlmited texting
$2 for early evenings/weekends (start at 5pm)
$3 subsciption fee to msn or something i can't figure out how to get rid of and don't currnelty use in case i got rid of it
$8 system access fee
$1 911 fee
tax's
TOTAL about $70ish

other options were:
$35 for 200 minutes $0.35 per minute over
$30 for 150 minutes $0.35 per minute over

previous months minutes used:
feb: 260
Jan: 157
Dec: 160
Nov: 150
Oct :170

So, i could save $5 per month, but the safety of not having to pay $20 for going over in minutes or something, is likely worth it - no surprises i guess.

So...then i asked my options for switching phones, after explaining my past stories. Lady said, they'd offer me $200 off the price of a no-contract PDA phone, and i'd restart my 3 year contract with them. My current 1.5yrs of existing contract would be wiped away.

Below is the list of phones i have to choose from i think:
TELUS Mobility 2008 Smartphones

Data plans are as follows:
TELUS Mobility 2008 Smartphones
essentially:
$30 gives: unlimited text, instant messaging and email + caller id, and 10 vm's
$45 gives: the above plus unlimited web surfing and applications (facebook, maps etc).

SO...IN THE END:

I'd pay for a new phone at the no contract price minus $200. There'd be no activation fee's. My plan would cost about $78 (lesser data plan) or $93 (better data plan) per month. I'd be free to sell my old KRZR when it returns hopefully fixed.

Any comments one way or another? Any suggestions/comments on various pda phones? I'd like something with wifi capabilities.

the link to the phones didnt work for me but either way... im with bell (i have a hard hate for telus) and i have a moto Q and i love the phone! its incredible and it comes with two batteries, regular size and large, i only have to charge it once a week, and have had zero problems so far... also i got my fon for free plus activation fees on a three yr contract... but i was a new customer... I think you may have just gotten a bad fon, it does happen, my ex had a razor and it was junk... nothing but problems yet my best friend has a razor and hes never had a problem with it.... So maybe you just have bad liuck with fons? hahahah

All i can really offer up is that after having the Q ill never go back to a 'stupid' fon again, smart fons offer so much more, plus since i hate talking on the fon i always txt and the full key board is just bad ***, until you have to enter your postal code to an automated service.... hahahaha

theres a new Q out now and i think it has wifi ... mine doesnt, and i also know that alot of smart fons are good at everything but being a phone... the Q has the best ear sound and over all has always been the best for actually talking on the fon...

So it sounds like you're looking at the smart phone?

My buddy has the HTC TyTn... (a step up from the touch) and he loves it.

Actually... 2 of my friends have the TyTn and they love them. So I'd lean that way if I were you

I had my sammie a920 for about a year when i decided I didnt like it, I phoned up bell and they gave me a blackberry pearl 8130 for nothing as long as I signed up for a data plan. I figured wtf, cant be that much more per month. I got my first bill and since I no longer have downloads or tv, my bill went down 25$ per month and I like my smartphone more!

Bell FTW!

Thanks for the info folks.

Talked to a few people, and a couple had the HTC Touch and were more htan happy, so i picked one of them up.

I must say, the phone is pretty whacky. Sooooo much you can do on there. Two days in, i'm super happy with it.

HRSS, your cell phone plan seems to be a bit on the high priced side.
my last plan included 250 minutes, evenings/weekends after 6, unlimited text and data, premium voice mail, caller id, etc all for $42 plus tax including the system access feee, and with the option to get a blackberry pearl for dirt cheap. you may want to renegotiate your contract...
tell thee that Bell offered you the above (which they are doing for $2 less) and they usually go several steps towards matching... can't lose i guess. i think i could even pass along my old plan if someone wanted it....

Do you think you're gonna utilize the internet anywhere feature that often? If yes....then get the higher plan. Unlikely considering you have a krzr..no offence..that was my previous phone.

The way I see it, is you're signing on for another 3 year term that will cost you a minimum of $150 + tax for a phone (moto Q or BB s.h.i.t..lol). If you're comfortable with that then go ahead.

Personally I'd sell the krzr when it gets back and buy a PDA if you so desire one, from a forum like howardforums, or redflagdeals and you'd find one for likely more than $150+tax but the offset from selling the krzr would make up most if not all of the difference. This way you're not committing for another 3 years.

Oh and I rock an HTC P4000 the P- stands for piece of . At first it was good to me and exciting but now...wow. Anywaz I have it on pay per use for the data which I never use. I always use a wifi connect.

I'll be heading back to "mike" and get the i930 which was my favourite phone of all time from the US and unlocking it and using that again.

My .02

Cheers.
