I was thinking of getting this. Is it worth it? what do I need to know about this? How much does it cost? and where do I go to get it?

Thanks

I have my A+ its essential for me we do warranty work for IBM. You will have to take 2 exams software and hardware, about $250cdn each one.

I'd say it's useful depending on what your plans are. It doesn't mean much to some people, yet, a lotta places require that you have it to work there, or see it as a bonus.

I'd see if you can get your hands on one of their text books, or a recommended text book for that year though. I remember when i took mine, i thought i knew most of it, until i found out like a quarter of the test was based on the first 1mb of memory, and what hte first 640k is and what it's used for and how that applies to the extended memory and blah blah blah. None of which applied 3 years ago, none of which really applies to any general computer work done today.

^^ I have 20 yrs experience in the high tech industry and I would not be able to perform my job without my "certs" Bottom line is no matter how much experience you have most high tech employers require it

True... a lot of places require certs but A+ isn't generally seen as anything special.

If you KNOW of a job that you want which requires it then go ahead... otherwise I wouldn't bother.

I got my A+ a few years ago... hasn't helped me one bit.. but work paid for it at the time so I didn't complain

I take it that the exams are difficult and take it that if you are already knowledgeable in computers, there is still alot to learn.

Any Place I can go locally to get the cert? what books do I need, where can I get a hold of a practice exam?

any help that would get me started would be of great help.

thanks
Shawn

would not be able to perform your current job or would not be able to get another similar job? </font>[/QUOTE]What I meant was that in my current position we do warranty work for IBM and others we would not get paid by them if I perform work on said machine without A+..server+...network+..etc... This applies to most of our affiliate companies HP, Sun etc.....

I found that the exams are not looking for general knowledge (although this helps). They will ask you specific questions on obscure details ie: Which switch(syntax:command/switch) should you type after a DOS command to get a list of switches available for the particular command as well as an explanation of what they do? Answer: A. /? B./# C./* D./& This not out of the ordinary to see something like this come up. The exam is also intuitive meaning if it sees you answer a question wrong it will continue with that line of questioning.

What I did was use all available study guides A+ for dummies is good and Measure up (google it)

I crammed it all in and put corks in my ears so it wouldnt leak out and went to right the exams. I have long forgot and have never come across some of the more obscure references from the exams.

If you wish PM me with your email and I will send you some study PDF files..
