Is there any reason not to buy it, or is there something better for that money??? I don't know a ton about cameras other than i'm not overly impressed with my bro's AA rechargable batteries....they don't last long at all.
***edit.....camera choice was changed to a sony listed at the bottom of this page due to availability and having read a ton of reviews on this particular fuji***

My first camera was and still is a fujifilm digital. I would highly recommend one till my son did some homework and ended up buying a Centrios digital from Circuit City. I told him to buy a Fujifilm, told him he would regret buying the Centrios but he made me eat my words. His camera is awesome and I do mean that. It takes unreal pictures and the features are excellent. I know which one I am buying next! Check it out...

The best batteries to use are NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride). Rayovac has a line of rechargable NiMH batteries that charges in 15 minutes as opposed 2-4 hours. I've had these batteries for years and they work great in my camera and lasts quite a while between charging. Go to Wal-Mart, they have the best pricing on these batteries and chargers...

I when I was buying a new camera, I stayed away from fuji, olympus, etc. purely because of the xD cards. You will spend a lot of money on these things because they are not as mass produced as SD. My first digicam was a Fuji that used SmartMedia cards. Now, I have these cards kicking around, and I cant do anything with them. At least if you have SD, the cards can be used in cameras, PDAs, MP3 players, laptops, and on and on and on. The SD cards are also available in larger capacities than xD, for less money.
The new Canons are very nice. My g/f got the SD600 earlier this year, and it is fantastic. Tons of features and very nice to use, not too expensive. I end up borrowing it fairly often even though my Konica-Minolta is only a year and a bit old.

but I agree NiMH batts are definatly the way to go, I have the Rayovac and radioshack brand batteries and they kick ***....I get about a week of use with my digital camera before I have to recharge.
As for the camera, surely you can get a better resolution camera for cheap. 5MP is kinda low by todays standards, but it's still a nice picture.
I'd love a Canon EOS 5D....12.8 megapixel, but I think, just for the frame is around $1500-2K then you need a decent lens, that could be anywhere from 200 to upwards of 1000 bucks. But imagine the quality of the pics.
I forget who makes it but there is a 16 MP camera. Pretty expensive though.

the xD cards aren't really much more expensive than a SD card. Can pick up a 1gig card for about $50, SD cards can be had for a bit cheaper, but its not a deal breaker. I agree in the sense that SD cards are more universal, but my Digicam was a fuji, and i loved it, last year I bought a sony and was dissapointed (go figure). The things I liked about the Fuji's was that they are quite compact and easy to use, and if they still make em like they used to, they take great pictures. I would also consider looking into canon's powershot stuff in that price/size. But the Fuji's are a great budget choice. If you like it, go for it!

DOH, kinda forgot to check the baord. Store i'd like to buy from doesn't have that camera in stock currenlty, so i've switched over to liking the Sony Cybershot DSC-W100. If anyone has any complaints please voice, otherwise i'll read all the above when i get home. OK, i'm home now. Here's the sony camera i like:

It's a lil more than i wanna spend, but any money is more than i wanna spend. I know you won't be happy about the memory cards, but meh it's only $60 for 1gb which isn't too bad. Also, not that it's really a big deal, but i think i can shove those sony sticks into my tv and view pictures on my tv if i had a need. I don't yet, but maybe in the future.
As for the batteries, i see you guys talking about NiMH, but can't find a camera that has them. Do only high high end cameras have them? I thought the sony was a pretty decent camera...definitely worth a decent amount of money (i think anyways...i realize they make rediculously priced cameras, but i'm poor). Wait, i see some lower end cameras have thos NiHM batteries...are they better than the Lithium Ion batteries? Whats better?
