Do two 15" IB into an adjacent room (laundry sort of room, not kitchen!!) if you can or into the attic. As warped as it "may" sound as an idea, it works incredibly well.

I seen that type of set-up before with 2 tempests. He had it in his attic and it was ported into the room from the ceiling. It was a pretty amazing setup. Thing is I'm putting the setup in a basement and theres not much room for that type of setup. Can't help but wonder how it sounds.

Does it matter if I have the sub and ports downfiring, or can I have them forward firing?

I noticed home subs have a ton of bracing, do I need all that bracing or can I do a more basic design?

Thunderous, Yes you can place the sub and ports on the front... Or sub on the front, and ports on the back with the plate amp.. Its up to you.

Yes you need the bracing. That is one of the most important parts.

Also, i highly recommend using the flared port kits that Creativesound sells.

sounds good... Is in room SPL different from car audio, You may have a high SPL but it doesnt mean it's loud? I was looking at Adire's SBB4 box and it seems tailored to what I'm looking for, although I'm not sure, will this box put out more bass you can feel than the adire alignment? Thanks.

 

SPL is the same.. SPL just means sound pressure level.

Your pretty much right on with the SBB4/Adire Alignments. The SBB4 with its higher tunning will boost (in room) freq's in the 20-35hz region, which works VERY well for home theater. It also should provide slightly more output then the adire alignment. The SBB4 does work OK for music, its not as good as the adire alignment.

Either would probably work well for you.
