Drifting???
I had thought powersliding also involved using the e-brake and not just making the rear end go out at the apex of a turn. Then I hear of this "drift" thing a year ago and I'm like..."meh, they make a sport out of powersliding".
I have no ability to do that in my car.
1)My car is FWD. 2) My ebrake is a footpedal 3)I prefer drag 4) Poverty. LOL

U can drift with an AWD without spinning all wheels. My buddy roasts the hell out of his Talon's rear wheels. His diff that distributes power front to back or whatever is spanked.
Anyhow, the front wheels pull him in whatever direction he steers and the rear wheels just spin. Drifting is a lot of fun to do, and it "IS" called powersliding. However, since power isn't required to drift, I like how they renamed it.
Best drifter are the old Camaros ... cab backwards design gives you good feel. Get some crappy tires from a JY and pump em up high (maybe 40 PSi or more). Car will slide like a jackass.

I think drifting would be alrite if you had a beater rwd but its gona get expensive for most folks with newer rwd cars.
rubber isnt cheap these days. call the tire place today and they quoted me 2k for tires for my car, if i spend 2k im gona try and conserve all the rubber i can.

Camaro SS's have low pro's man....my friends Lightning runs 295/45/18's and they cost around 400 a peice.
Most people that have the money to drift also have money to replace their tires frequently...although it doesn't cost much to build a decent drift car.
Build a stiff suspension...Poly bushings and the sort...and some good, hard compound tires aired to the max rating or more if you feel comfortable doing so...remember when a tire heats up, the air inside expands, so don't air them up too much, same as when they start spinning really fast. That's why the NHRA top fuelers run such a low tire pressure...that and it's better traction of the line...next time there on TV watch the tires while they do a burnout you'll see them expand LARGE...but at 13,000RPM you can't expect much.
Oh, try to get your center of gravity as low as possible too, I've had my car come up on 2 wheels more than once...I wasn't worried but it takes a lot of people to flip over a 3500Pound car when it's on its roof.
Another thing that's pretty big in Japan is Grip racing...the total opposite of drift....totally cool too.

Best car I ever owned for drift was my 87 Volvo 740.
It came as a non turbo, I took a turbo and manifold off a 950Turbo sedan ( 175Hp or so) Cool air intake a 2.5" exhaust, Poly bushings 225/60/16 Bridgestones and a 2" drop I made by taking a couple U clamps and squeezed a couple turns out of my coils, and a couple steel blocks in the back bolted through the frame.....it had the M46 4speed stick with overdrive which didn't work but I still managed to get 145KMPH out of 4th....stripped the interior so to speak...carpet stayed so did the seats...all the other trim peices came out, the console, glovebox, door skins, anything I didn't need, even the airconditioning that never worked in the first place.
Awesome car, wish the tranny never blew or I'd still have it.

Drifting is a sanctioned contest judged on style and speed through a set course. It's more like SCCA solo racing except it's better to go through the course with lots of style rather than just the fastest line.
