dvd + or - are standard, one from DVD+RW Alliance and the other from DVD forum (The Battle Between Beta and VHS but this time there's no winner). DVD-RAM (random access memory) are for data storage and pro video recorder.

For say burning data, videos, backing up dvd's, ps2 games and such

not realy if you have the right burner. I use DVD-R because some old ps2(v1) and dvd player don't read DVD+R.

 

I was told many home DVD players won't play DVD+ discs.
I haven't verified it though yet as I can't get any of the DVD's I burn to play in a home DVD player.
If you have any idea what I'm doing wrong please let me know. I've burnt them in DVD+, DVD-, VCD, they just don't work except they will play back on my computer fine.

 

85% or so players will read DVD+R. As opposed to the 99% that will read the normal DVD-R's. My burner is a DVD+R. And so far there is no DVD player that would not play them.

That and DVD+R are usually cheaper to buy. Because they do not bear the offical DVD logo.

It has no problems playing music CD's that I burn.

Do the specs on your home dvd players say that they will play DVD-R's? (all formats or in general any of them) and also what programs are you using? My PS2 says it reads Burned DVD's but there are SOME DVD's that I have burned that it only reads the data on them and not the movie to play. Cuz in general I know the player has to be compatible with burned dvd's to play them. But it also could be the program you are using.

Didnt read all of ur last post apparently B's Recorder Gold is supposed to be one of the best ones, I've never used Nero also my dad that used Nero said he couldn't get the Nero ones to work. I have a lot of programs well he does i use the ones he has cause he's had his burner for over a year now I just got mine. But there are programs like DVD X Copy Platinum (I think thats what its called, maybe a couple words are reversed or somethin), Any DVD, Clone DVD, DVD Shrink, DVD Xpress and there's another one that i cant think of at the moment.

Clone DVD combined with Any DVD is the best and easiest combination to use. You should be able to make copies like that with no problems.
