Thanks for explaining all this. I would have replied sooner, but got a horrible problem with my good puter and I am stuck with the old NEC standby. Not reliable at all.
I am still somewhat lost. Although I have some idea.
So in my SOny Viao 540 I would replace the cd burner with the DVD burner? right?
Leave the other drive alone.
What i want to do is put my 4x4 movies and stereo comps on DVD that can be played on any home DVD system and then eventually on mobile DVD.
I dont have quite the processor speed they say i need, but i can live with that for now.
So to burn and reburn stuff i would use the R+- correct?
And either r+ or r- to burn once.
Thinks me better find DVD for dumasses book!!

DVD-R were the default at first. Basically what it all boils down to is the companies that developed DVD+R just didn't want to have to pay royalties to DVD-R since it was licensed. Which is why on DVD-R discs you will find the DVD Video logo, and on DVD+R you will not. So basically it came down to companies developing it so they didn't have to pay royalties.
They are virutally the same otherwise. And almost all DVD players bought within the last couple years should play DVD+R discs. IF your player does not then it's either really cheap! Or it's an older model.

Think of VHS and BETA.. they are both Video Tapes, but different [img]smile.gif[/img] Same with DVD+R and DVD-R.. they are both dvd's but different [img]smile.gif[/img]

Yeah I wouldn't say exactly the same, BETA/VHS had the same technology just bigger tape/smaller tape, IN this case Dvd_+ / - are different technologies as to how they burn to the media the spacing/gaps in the dvd media layering.
