He's not a problem cougar. A conservation officer won't even shoot a bear if it attacks a human when defending it's young or is startled. The only times they will actually go out and shoot a bear is if it attacks a human for a food source.
Has this cougar done that yet? What did that conservation officer say about this "problem cougar"?
My wife and I are very schooled when comes to wildlife (she also grew up in a national park). So go hump someone else's leg, because your attitudes are pissin me off.

PS...See how easy it is to respond to multiple posts with one post?...lol
Oh, and this discussion reminds me of something I heard once. I think it had to do with the special olympics somehow relating to arguing on the internet? (no offence to the special olympics). Perhaps with your vast wealth of knowledge you can enlighten us.

#2 I agree the shotgun is a very poor choice for a cat of that size, I'd use the bow before the shotgun in that case (and yes I've hunted with both)..but if you have to use the shotgun use a slug chances are you'll wound him less or at least use some #1's or SSG's if you can get em
#3 the CO's will come shoot the bears around here for getting into people's garbage

I just got my hair up due to people's attitude towards me just because I happen to defend dogs. Defo seemed to be the ONLY one that has the ability on this board to have an open mind when it comes to pit's & BSL. I have been the target of peoples ridicule just because of this? Who's acting childish?
I also said before that I would rather handle arguments in person, over the phone, maybe you missed that.....
I guess that's way things work in the boonies (sad), but where there is actual human population in Waterton/Banff national parks it doesn't happen like that period. My wifes mother is a director @ one of these parks to this day, and I grew up getting schooled by the gunsmith(for the last 25+ years to the RCMP/CO's/local police) on hunting, and conservation...my father. We have both reloaded till the cows come home, but don't care to anymore because we have both quit hunting.
On a side note my mother-in-law hit a deer with her Pontiac Wave (she commutes now) this week & it's pretty much written off. Do you drive your little car to the oil sands project? Keep your eyes open.
I'm no tree hugger or plan on joining Greenpeace, I just happen to think conservation is better than destroying, maybe so that my kids kids can enjoy wildlife after we are long gone.
Can some of you just keep an open mind?! Grow up!
Apology accepted Dodgeram. I kind of thought that's the way it works there. Why is it they chase off Polar bears rather than shoot them when the get into peoples garbages. I watched a program on TV recently where kids were walking to school & a Polar bear was in real close proximity to them, & the CO just fired warning shots so that it would leave the area?
No need to hate.

polar bears are a protected species link
it has been found around here that relocating bears just does not seem to work ....they will travel hundreds of mile to come back, once they find an easy meal and are no longer scared of people(the big one) they are very destructive of peoples property, they kill peoples pets and make people themselves very uncomfortable.
also they are pretty discreet about killing the animals, they try not to do it when people are around (def not kids) and usually won't unless there have been lots of complaints
most bears learn exactly what a bear trap is and stay away from it
for example the one summer we had a real bear problem (must have been 20 of them around town), they had traps and bangers set up ,the bangers sound like a gun going off every 20 minutes or so, even so they had to shoot 3 bears over the summer
bears are pretty much animals of opertunity as oposed to an all out preditor and would rather not have a cofrontation with people unless they have to
as for the cat they are an all out preditor and I would consider one very dangerous if he no longer has his natural fear of man, I would say he deff needs to be removed.....

its hard not to have an open mind on the pitbull issue becuase there is no reasonable solution. but as i stated before, protecting children and family form animals, pitbuills, cougars, labs or sh!tzu's should be of prime priority regardless of the location of the animal, backyard, in the bush, of in the street. protect your own first. there is a foodchain in place for a reason, in the overall scheme of things, tuner and mrs tuners children are of a significant more importance that a cougar, a pet is a pet, and as much as im sure mrs tuners is devestated by the loss of a pet, as most people would be, better a pet than a child. i dont care if i takes a rocket launcher to kill the cougar, kill it and post the results, sorry im a bit of a gore freak
00 buck. 12 .33 caliber bullets from a 12 ga.
I've hunted deer with it in the bush and taken down bucks twice the size of this coug with no issues under 75ft.
I think everyone needs to gear down and not take themselves so seriously, 'cause no one else does.

I highly doubt that's the ammo he has on hand. Still not MY weapon of choice here.
I had no idea that polar bears are protected. We keep shooting bears/cougars & soon they will be protected as well. There are times when it's necessary & times that it should be avoided if possible. Nobody agrees with that? You want these awesome beasts going the way of the Dodo? I know that sounds drastic but it's a possibility if everyone wants to shoot first ask questions later.
I don't quite understand why relocating bears works here but not there?
I agree with protecting yours defro. I always will.
Using a shotgun on a cougar reminds me of hunters that take their shot from 5-600yards and say I hit um but couldn't find um. It takes all kinds I guess. If he MUST be shot do the job right for christ sakes! I still think relocation in this instance should at least be considered
, like I said before, the people on the island are in his backyard not the other way around. Kind of like a national park if you catch my drift.
I would really like to hear what the CO in Courtney said about this "problem" cougar.
In regards to the APBT ban, the people that think a reasonable solution is to ban them, quit greasing me because I think it's a poor solution. I'll continue to be serious about that, especially when I get greased for it. That's what brought me into this thread to begin with.
