I would like to plug my electric guitar into my computer, besides my guitar and computer what other hardware would I need? Or would I just need an adapter to plug into the mic input?

a decent sound card.....sound blaster audigy2....if you have usb 2.0 you can pic up the external one, cuts out the noise from the computer.....and then a mic i guess or some kind of midi set up if your serious about it....if not then a mic and a decent sound card....

if yuour guitar amp has a pre-amp output, go from that output to the line in on your sound card. If not, then go to the mic in if you haven't got an expernal preamp.

I wouldn't waste your time trying to plug right into the mic input. It will sound like crap. You should pick up a Line 6 "Guitar Port" www.guitarport.com
You'll have lots of fun playing with that. It's like $200 in canada. Carefull your pickups can damage your moniter.

If you're going to spend the money on the guitar port, there are many other choices out there. You may wish to use something that will be of more use when you're performing live.

I second the Line 6 unit.....used it a few times.

I'm also a guitar player....yes, technically, pickups could screw up your monitor, however unless you play right up against your monitor, I doubt very much that you will have problems.....and if you do, you could always spend the $600 , and get EMG active pickups

A great recording program, if you can find it, is Sonar 3. Just FYI.
