gullwing doors
You're both right. Kinda.
Typically Gull-wing doors are as Jeepbeats has pictured. They typically were hinged at the top (roof).
Lambo doors pivot at the front and swing forward at the same time as they go up.
The new SLR doors are hinged at the front but swing with the A-pillar lines. They work like a traditional gull-wing dooor would but instead of going straight up like their old SLR they swing with the A-pillar to be less in the way when getting in/out.

I've never seen a true aftermarket gullwing conversion. Not to say that it's never been done.
On the other hand, lambo doors are becoming very common. Check out this video of an R32 from HPA Motorsports (Surrey, BC) with their LSD door kit installed. Very cool!

oh ****... actual GULL WING doors like the ones pictures are stupidly expensive. Lambo doors are one thing.. but actual gull wing doors?
WOW.. you'd have to totally re-structure the doors and the roof to support them. To get the gas shocks made... special hinges.. AND to have the doors re-enforced.. man that would cost a ton of money. Is it really worth it? I mean it would be damn near impossible to get out if your tightly parked.. since the doors open completely sideways.. with the full height of the door working againest you. Seems like an enormus task. But sure would be original.
Kudos to you if you pull it off.

The prob with gullwing doors is that you have to re enforce your roof. The roof takes all the weight of a door and will probably not support it to well. If you look at the pictures of the cars with gull wings you will see that they are a thin door, mostly just a outter skin with a covering for the inside.

Take that RX7 and remove 90% of it's roof, then see if it could still support itself. Heavy reinforcing will have to be done to the roofline in order to put the hinges + carry the weight + keep the roof from creasing due to the action of opening and closing the door.

I have seen exactly ONE non stock gullwing car. It was an 85ish Honda Civic (really!) from the Calgary area. Lots of work went into that mod
