I bought a external hard drive case and my dad gave me a MAxtor 30gb hard drive he got replaced under warranty a couple eyars ago but has never used. I am able to get windows to detect the drive, but it fails to show up when I go into My Computer. I have tried different jumper settings.

The drive is a DiamondMax Plus 60 Ultra ATA 100 and it is an Ultra 3.5 hard drive case.

any suggestions. The hard drive powers up and everything. It just doesnt show in My Computer.

The computer I am trying it on is a new EMachines pc as well.

is the drive formatted? Does the drive show up in disk management?

Does the computer detect when the drive is plugged in?

is it the correct format? is it all one partition? what file system? is the partition set as active?

Disk Management was the answer. It's my first time building an external hard drive like this. Thanks for the help!
