Whats your price range? I work at a canadian tire and we get free time to build and play with the drills in the back all the time. Lemme know if your price and whether or not your willing to try a 14v makita, they got some new stuff out now, a 14.4 drill+impact kit for $399 on sale at Can tire, rocks my socks.

Hitachi, Bosch, Makita, Milwaulkee, several others are all a lot better.

I just used the brand new Hitachi 18, it's awesome. The new Makita 18 is SO compact.

Dewalt is a great mid budget drill, I even own a 14.4, but there are better drills.

I wasn't really considering reliability. Somthing to thing about is that a lot of contractors use bosch/milwaukee/makita and they abuse the hell out of tools, dewalt is more of a homeowner type tool, that might skew what you get back?

Hitachi's are incredible tho, after seeing what my dad puts them thru as a contractor, and they almost never break. He had a 14.4 drill for 13 years that he just gave up on because the battery tabs don't hold the battery very well anymore. He beats the hell out of his tools too, used in the rain, dropped, always in the cold, and that thing was fixed maybe 3 times. Had the batteries recored at about 8 years, a new trigger, and something with the chuck.

and the new ones that hammer are great!

Totally agree, 14.4 is all you need and Makita has one of the lightest drills around. Much better when on your back under a dash. The Dewalt has been slided down hill for years.
