Mmmk, well i made one post a bit back about somewhat higher end tv shopping (high end to me anyways).

So...started off lookin to spend about $1000, then after see'n a few certain tv's one in particular, and since i think in general tv's should last a while (one i'll pick anyways), why not drop the coin???

I know some of you will say go to a high end shop and sometime when i have time, i would like to make it to audioarc downtown, but finding time when they're open is a bit of a different story.

None the less, i'm not super knowledgable on tv's and whats comparable between the different brands, whether i'm just paying for name within a certain brand or what. It definitely has to be wide screen, want some fairly good quality, cannot have that big (gay in my mind) speaker bottom portion, can have tiny speakers on the sides, but thats bout all. The one i've seen and have liked most so far is this guy:

neat tv

I coulda swore it was $4000 about a week ago at best buy but now it's $5199. Im currenlty try'n to figure out the difference between it and sony's other 55" tv here.

I absolutely love how it looks in the store (first tv). Am i paying for price with this? Should i be lookin at another brand that does equal quality for way less? What can you guys tell me about them. As well a tv like that should last for quite a while right, from what i've discovered the lamp in the back is about the only thing to go on them, and it's replacable. I also like how it's not super thick/deep.

I don't want LCD (i don't think) or Plasma, cause those are super duper expensive and have heard they're lifespan is shorter.

*again sometime here if i ever have any time, i'd like to whip down to a highend store to view all the differences, but currenlty best buy has been about hte best i've been able to do.*

I myself am in the market for a TV and trying to figure out which one to go for. What I have found looking at a whole bunch of TV's is that the LCD / Plasma's have a slower refresh rate to if you watch fast moving things (car racing, fast sports, etc) there is a little lag and it seems a bit choppy... I personally like the look of the DLP's... but with DLP the price seems to still be a bit high... so I'm going for good old CRT.

Yeah i got a chance to do some solid research at a couple different places, and was told hte same hting about lcd's having a bit slower refresh rate in comparison to DLP's. I've found a couple screen's that i like, one JVC that the guy didn't have a ton to say about cause they hadn't sold as many and what not. The others being the Samsung's. Guy at best buy was amazingly helpful...told me a ridiculous amount about all the tv's over the course of like 40 minutes. Now i'm just wondering whether some of them will go any further on sale then what htey already are due to newer models coming out or what.

used to be the video manager at soundsaround in c-town. i can tell a couple of things about tv's. one is that plasma and lcd have the longest life you can get, 100k to 150k hours compared to 10k hours crt based. dlp's are great except nobody tells people that you have to replace the bulbs every 3k hours or so to get optimum picture quality. that can get real expensive. run the lcd IMO, i personally am a big fan of the Toshiba. my .02.
