hmm which suv?

Soo we are thinking of trading in the cavalier since it's not practical with having a lil one, it's more so the lack of space that's not practical I still like the car but we are looking into an suv with at least a 6 cylinder no v8.. Couple options where Ford Escape/Mazda Tribute essentially the same vehicle, or even a Jeep Liberty which are all in the 2002 year range... Does anyone have either of these vehicles and whats your option on them, The Jeep Libery is 4*4 so that would be nice for winter and has 98km on it... The dealership is looking 13,988$ I think for it... automatic Silver, the interior looks good the outide seems pretty decent going 2nite to check it out... My car I would have a buyout left on... What would you say a 2003 Cav z24 5 speed 43,000km on it... body is mint sub the dent in the damn hood and a cracked windshield... How much should I be "expecting" to get from a dealer for my car???

I have a 2002 Explorer XLT which is fantastic for whatever you might want to do. Although you said Escape they are pretty much the same minus size. A lady at my work has like an 02-03 Escape and she really likes it. Hasn't had any problems with it since I've seen her driving it over the past couple years. So that wouldn't be a bad choice.

cav have a fast resale and value isnt to bad depending a trim level. Now just as a guess I would say like $10k - $11k.

Few of my friends have the Ford Escape's and they absolutely love them. Proven to be very reliable and for the price they can be had for a really nice bargain IMO. Pretty decent gas mileage also.
I have a couple friends with the Liberty's also and no complaints from them either. More room in the Escape's though it seems and the Liberty's are a bit more pricey.

this coming from an employee of ford.

i am nto a fan of the escapes... thiers just somehting about a FWD/AWD SUV thats makes me sick...

then again i drive a full size truck that is 3 times an escapes size. Yes they area good little SUV, but for me IMO extremlly useless... but you do not seem liek the person who will be useing it off road at all... so in the end it may be the best choice for you...

also try looking into a 4 door blazer... or 2door blazer. great for any conditions, dependable... well from the ones my family has own'd.

Yeah i know... i work for ford... but i drive nothing but chevy's...

any ways keep looking thier are some pretty good ones out thier.

bleeh, domestics...

I drive a pathfinder and have no issues with it. being that its an 89 and has over 270 xxx km it doesnt burn any oil, doesnt leak and great off road. ive put the thing through some moderat abuse and havent broken anything major.(only thing was dent in bumper and lost my licence plate) Ive sunk it two times now and still it starts right up everytime.

If I was in the market for another SUV I would look at a Nissan or even, maybe just a little bit, a yota. im very impressed with nissans

If you are used to fairly cramped quarters, you won't mind an Escape, or even an Explorer for that matter. I find them tiny inside for how much bulk of a vehicle they are. We had a Grand Caravan and loved it, especially with our baby daughter and Lab Retreiver. Bought a 2005 Magnum and love that too. Its really roomy inside and is the smoothest car I've ever owned on the road.

As for trade in value, either expect a really low number from the dealer, or a decent number but with zero off the price of the car you want to buy. It's all about the difference in price between the two cars. Check out what similar cars are selling for at dealer lots and privately. From a dealer lot, take off about 20-25% of their asking price and that's about what you'll get on trade in. Car dealers, new or used, make all their profit on trade ins and used car sales.
