Ok, this tiny assed pinprick hole was just sprung in my rad. it's like right up against the coupling (that the right word?) for the main hose. i took it into the shop to have them take a look, they said they couldn't do any weld job to patch it because it's so close to the coupling, it could easily damage the soder or sumthing so he wouldn't do the job unless the entire rad was taken out and the entire coupling part replaced... quote was ridiculas high, like $200 to fix...

personally i think he was just full of it, i went to canadian tire, they had this rad repair kit where you put fibreglass over the hole and epoxy it down... i think this would do the job, you guys recommend it? or is there something better for me that i could use? or is the repair guy correct and I should use the shop? any advice here as I need to get this fixed asap..

Thanks , oh, here's a pic

Try Rad leak stop stuff thing first.
Works wonders on **** like that. My Aunt fixes hers by doing that.

If I had brasing rods at work I'd weld it but I don't.

Also try JB WELD. It's good for heat and should do the job.

Go to a Lordco store and look for a 2 part Epoxy type steel. Forget the name of it, but comes in a 4" long tube. Cut a piece off and start mixing it together.

Almost the same stuff as JB Weld but much easier to use.

A small hole like that could be soldered, usually the want to charge you to replace the whole tank.

$200 bucks? If you can't fix just buy one from the wreckers. Mine had a hole in it and it couldn't be fixed (plastic). So I bought one from a wreckers for $75 and swapped it out myself. Only took 20 minutes.

Holy, you almost can't see that hole. Does it pee when the car is warmed up? I'd just patch some JB weld over that area and call it a day.

i agree, i got a tube of that stuff, its called quick steel, works awesome. just clean the area really well, and scuff it up a bit, and you should have no problems.

Hey Martin I've used old coat hangers in a pinch as brazing materials. And I got lot's of them!

But hey being that close to an joint that pine hole may only be the begining. Look for an replacement rad just in case...
