Home Theatre question: talking isn't loud enough compare to rest of sound

hmm. Center channel is definitely turned off on the receiver. It's unfortunate my room is so not ideal for a homestereo setup.
Guess the last option is to pick up a center channel speaker. Hmm another $150ish for myself probably. See if the family comes thru on exhaust and or intake for my birthday, if so, i might throw in the athena as-c1 onto my list. $229cdn list price

Go to Visions in Edmonton. The Athena C1C centrechannel is clearance and very agressively priced if still in stock. It has a passive radiator and very bright tweeter. Vocals are very accurate and it is a relatively slim centre channel. Great for TV mount or even better wall mount.

One little thing that has helped me in past has been a setting in the dvd, or reciever. Try find 'DR comp' or something like that.
It reduces the dynamic range of the output, making the loud parts a little quiteter.
A centre will deffinately give you more control though.

I've always been disappointed in visions, but that could just be the lack of service from the store on 170th st.

hmm yeah athena has them for $188. Reg price is like 250ish.
But turns out guy in BC that i always deal with will give it to me for like $120 - as they're getting outta them, so they can carry the high high end paradigm.
He also mentioned that 70% of the voices come from the center channel and that it'll make a huge difference when i get one. So we'll order that up on monday.

ah, asked my HT guy and he agrees with me.. center channel takes over sound shared between L & R, usually over 120HZ...
Diolog is mostly sharred between L & R equally, so when you turn your center on that is where most of it is comming from...
If it dosent sound right you need to reposition speakers for better imaging and/or use an EQ to make up for poor freq. response... you are probably dealing with too much mid not enough high... and possibly poor imaging too boot..

i can almost guarantee there's poor imaging.....i sadly have a very limited amount of space to work with.
But i also think it was the movie too, not so much me or the system now. Watched a few other movies and they sounded just fine. Either way, have an athena center channel on the way for about $120
