Hey folks, so lately, i've sorta been debating a lack of bass output on the home stero. Turns out my paradigm (pw series) sub ain't doing anything.

Checking it today, its getting power, but it's like there's no cable connected. Likewise the amp is sorta makin a high pitched noise, which could be normal, never paid attention.

Messing with the receiver sub volume makes no difference, so lookin closer, checking cables, i touched the cable and the sub started makin a loud sound as if it was getting feedback or only partially connected. But connected seemingly properly the light comes on, but i get no action on the sub. It's like it's not even getting signal.

I've verified the receiver configured correctly incase it was reset.

Can i connect any cable to the sub for testing, or do i need a specific sub cable? with any like RCA work? Just to make sure it's not the cable.

 

Sounds like the amp is cooked - My PW-2200 died 21 days after the 3 year warranty was up. The amp would turn on but no sound.

OK, got bored, went ahead and hooked up a different cable, this one a $2 cable and seemingly better fit. Hooked it up, and at lower volumes it did ok, but at any type of med volume it seemed to almost make a slapping sound every now n then. Either way, didn't see positive. So i've takent he sub off, as if i know what i'm looking for, and everything looks a-ok.

Could the amp be causing this?

I don't exactly have spare parts to play with or anything unfortunaley. Nor do i realllly realllly want to have to ship this frickin monster accross canada and likley pay for it if i don't have to.

 

its either the amp or sub(driver)

U might have to take it to a local electronics repair shop.

 

Yeah, i've had conflicting info from the various paradigm dealers (the one i bought it from - and the one currenlty local to me).

So i'm gonna check with them on Monday, see what my options are. Be nice if something miraculous happened and it cot me nothing or next to nothing.

 

My pw2200 was doing that 3 months after I got it. The dealer replaced the amp in it, and its been going strong for 3 years. They are really sensitive to your house grounding. My buddy has one and his house is old, and whenever he plugs it in, there is a nice audible hum. Even without rcas plugged in. He then hooked everything up in his new addition, no problems. Send the amp out.

 

So, i'm outta warranty and it sounds like it's about $200 for either the sub or the amp, the key is figuring out which is the problem.

I took the sub out of the box and had it play - turn it up past a super low volume and it'll make some sound included with some popping and then it'll just stop playing. I took a video mainly for sound of just how it sounds when you turn on the amp or shut it off, but i'm not sure thats useful.

So now my question is, I don't have any duplicates of either or any other good way to test. So my options are to:

a) hook up a surround speaker to the sub amp
b) hook the sub up to a channel from my receiver

Are either of these better than the other? Are any of them not safe in some way or another? Anything to look out for or better to try?

 

hook the sub up to another source ( maybe amp in car)

And try another sub or something that works with amps range in the box.

Find out what the issue is with. replace said part.
