Are iPods worth it?

I want to pick one up but the $$$ is still a little steep. Compare other options out there. There are alot of other mp3 players out there that will do the job for much less. You just won't have the little white rectangle.
I currently have a USB drive/mp3/recorder. My only beef is its only 128 mb. You can only get 20-25 songs or so on it. I would deffinatly look for somthing bigger. But considering it only cost like 85 bux, it does the job fine.

i almost bought an ipod. thier worth it but wait tell they go down in price a little or get a used one. use you money on something much more wiser like a new sub or something.

For the amount of storage they have, they are worth it. And the huge amount of accesories available make it pretty flexible.
BUT I've heard that IPods are not serviced in Canada, they go to the states. So if you have a warranty failure, they will swap yours with a refurb. Also they need to go to the factory if the battery need replacing.
As mentioned, the smaller solid state ones are much cheaper and you can throw a 1G SD card in some of them and get lots of storage too. My guess is the solid state ones will hold up to shock better too.

It's not worth it until you get one. I held off for years, but recently took the plunge. My particular model, the 40gig iPod, has a rated battery life of 12 hours (depending on settings). Real life, probably 9 to 10. It has your usual clock and alarm features, but can also be used to keep schedules, photos (depending on model), and double as a back up hard drive for data. Audiobooks is kind of cool, but I have no use for it , as I hate to read books.
I hook mine up to the stereo in the car via the cradle which is very convenient. The cradle has power and lineout, so it can be hooked up to the aux input of any stereo system (car or home).
As mentioned previously, there are literally tonnes of accessories out there, as iPods have been very popular for quite some time now. Can't run with it, was mentioned previously. The are all kinds of neat cases available for the thing. Everything from fanny pack and arm band types, to silicone skins and armour suits.
Because of the shear size (capacity) of the iPod, most of my songs are uploaded in full CD quality. That's another feature of the iPod. It can playback music in a variety of formats - MP3, AIFF, AAC, WAV, and Apple's own proprietary "lossless" compression format.

iPod Lounge also has a forum, so if you want feedback from owners themselves, it's the place to find out.
The iPod works on both Mac or IBM Compatibles. I happen to be a Mac aficionado, so the iPod is quite seamless and very easy to work with. The click wheel control is so cool to use and being able to organize your downloaded music into multiple playlists is also a very neat feature.
I never thought I'd get me an iPod, but once you get one, you'll have no regrets.
As for the battery changes, there are local shops that can do it. There are plenty of DIY web sites, also. Most people can do a battery change in less than 15 minutes. Those people who have issues with battery life are those who don't understand how rechargeable batteries work - memory effect, battery management, and such.
As with everything on this planet, there are negatives, but so far, I love the thing. My son has one of those smaller MP3 players, and for him, it does the job. He has better things to do with his money. Me on the other hand, I have a habit of living beyond my means.

Anyway, about the iPod. I wasn't aware that you can't run with it. Whay is this? I see people skiing and snowboarding all the time with them. I wouldn't think they would have the ability to skip would they? For some reason this isn't making sense to me.

i think i got mixed up when i was typeing and i was having a good time [img]graemlins/beer.gif[/img] . i tend to do that alot, but ya thier worth it, if you got the money to fork over for one.
